It operates bipolar stepper motors in full, half, 1\/4, 1\/8, and 1\/16 stepping modes, with output drive performance up to 16 V and ±1 A. Typically using 12 V, the A4988 includes a fixed off-time current regulator that operates in slow or mixed decay modes. The converter is the key to the A4988's ease of implementation. The motor can be driven to produce micro-steps with a single pulse on the \"step\" input. There is no need for phase sequence tables, high frequency control lines, or complex interface programming, and the A4988 interface is ideal for complex applications where the microprocessor is unavailable or overloaded.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThe chopper control within the A4988 automatically selects the current attenuation mode (slow or mixed) during microstepping operation.
