0603 SMD Chip Resistors, Precision Values & Kits

0603 SMD chip resistors for general-purpose and precision PCB design

This collection focuses on 0603 imperial surface-mount resistors, a compact format commonly used for pull-up and pull-down networks, feedback paths, bias circuits, filtering, signal termination, LED current limiting and PCB repair. Products include single-value packs, low-ohm options, precision listings, assortment books and production quantities. Every resistance, tolerance, power, TCR and pack quantity must be confirmed at variant level.

What is a 0603 resistor?

0603 is an imperial package designation with a nominal body around 0.06 × 0.03 inches, commonly corresponding to 1608 metric. It defines physical size, not resistance or wattage. Compared with 0402, 0603 is generally easier to place and rework manually while remaining compact enough for dense boards.

Products represented

  • Single-value resistors: selections from zero ohms and sub-ohm values through kilohm and megohm ranges.
  • 0R links: configurable PCB jumpers with finite resistance and current limits.
  • Low-ohm options: selected values such as 0.01Ω to fractions of an ohm for circuits where lead, pad and trace resistance can be significant.
  • Precision listings: selected products described as 1%, 0.1% or 0.01%, including a listing marked 25ppm. These specifications apply only to the exact listed variants.
  • Assortment kits: sample books containing multiple values and, in some listings, multiple package sizes.
  • Bulk quantities: packs and reels intended for repeated assembly or automated placement.

How to choose

  1. Select resistance: read notation carefully. 4R7 is 4.7Ω, 2K2 is 2.2kΩ and 1M5 is 1.5MΩ.
  2. Choose tolerance: use the circuit error budget to determine whether 5%, 1%, 0.1% or tighter accuracy is required.
  3. Confirm the package system: verify 0603 imperial / 1608 metric and the PCB land pattern.
  4. Calculate dissipation: use P = I²R or P = V²/R, then apply thermal derating for ambient temperature and PCB conditions.
  5. Check voltage limits: maximum working voltage can constrain a small resistor before calculated power does.
  6. Review TCR and stability: precision analog and divider applications may depend more on temperature coefficient and long-term drift than initial tolerance alone.
  7. Check pulse loading: switching, surge and discharge circuits require verified pulse and overload data.
  8. Confirm packaging: compare pieces per value, total quantity, cut tape, full reel, filled book or empty storage-book options.

0603 versus 0402 and 0805

0603 sits between smaller 0402 and larger 0805 formats. It usually offers easier handling than 0402 and uses less PCB area than 0805. Neither comparison establishes power, voltage, pulse capability or interchangeability; the PCB footprint and exact component rating still control selection.

Precision-resistor boundaries

A tighter tolerance does not automatically mean low TCR, low noise, matched tracking or high pulse capability. The 0.01% / 25ppm listing represents a specific product family, not the whole collection. Verify resistance availability, TCR, operating temperature, voltage coefficient and stability from supported product data.

Low-ohm measurement

For sub-ohm values, solder joints and PCB traces can materially affect circuit resistance. Use suitable measurement techniques and consider Kelvin routing when accuracy demands it. A low resistance value alone does not prove that a part is designed as a current-sense resistor.

Mixed-listing boundaries

Some listings combine 0603 with 0201, 0402, 0805, 1206, 1210, 2010 or 2512 selections. Only a variant explicitly marked 0603 belongs to this package. Several assortment listings also include empty sample-book options; an empty book contains no resistors.

Rating caution

Product titles include differing power references such as 1/16W, 0.1W, 1/10W and 1/8W. These must not be applied across the collection. Confirm the rating and derating curve for the exact product, resistance value and operating conditions.

Ordering checklist

  • 0603 imperial / 1608 metric confirmation
  • Nominal resistance and notation
  • Tolerance and TCR
  • Rated power and thermal derating
  • Working and overload voltage
  • Pulse and stability requirements
  • Pieces per value and total quantity
  • Single value, assortment, reel or empty book

Frequently asked questions

Does 0603 specify resistance or wattage?

No. It specifies a package-size family. Resistance and every electrical rating are separate.

Are 0603 imperial and 0603 metric identical?

No. 0603 imperial is commonly 1608 metric. Confirm the actual dimensions before ordering.

Is every 0603 resistor rated at 1/10W?

No. Listings show several different power claims, and actual ratings depend on the exact component and derating conditions.

Does 1% tolerance guarantee low temperature drift?

No. Tolerance and TCR are different specifications.

Can a low-ohm 0603 automatically be used for current sensing?

No. Verify power, TCR, tolerance, terminal construction and layout requirements.

Do assortment books contain only 0603 resistors?

Not always. Some combine several package sizes, and some variants are empty storage books.
