1210 SMD Chip Resistors, Precision Values & Kits

1210 SMD resistors for larger-pad assembly and precision circuits

This collection focuses on 1210 imperial surface-mount resistors, including general thick-film values, 0R links, low-ohm selections, precision thin-film options and assortment kits. The wider body offers more pad and surface area than 1206, but package size alone does not establish power, voltage, tolerance or thermal performance.

What does 1210 mean?

1210 imperial describes a nominal body around 0.12 × 0.10 inches and commonly corresponds to 3225 metric. It is a size code, not an electrical rating. Do not confuse 1210 with 1206, 2010, 2512 or unrelated parts that also use the 3225 dimensions.

Products represented

  • General fixed resistors: 0R through ohm, kilohm and megohm values in single-value packs.
  • Low-ohm options: selected values down to hundredths of an ohm where connection resistance matters.
  • Precision thin-film options: a specific listing described as 0.1% and low TCR.
  • Assortments: 1210-focused kits and mixed-package books containing several SMD sizes.

How to select

  1. Confirm footprint: verify 1210 imperial / 3225 metric dimensions and the PCB land pattern.
  2. Select resistance: 4R7 means 4.7Ω, 2K2 means 2.2kΩ and 1M means 1MΩ.
  3. Choose technology: distinguish general thick-film products from precision thin-film options.
  4. Check tolerance and TCR: these are independent specifications and must match the error budget.
  5. Calculate power: use P = I²R or P = V²/R, then apply product-specific thermal derating.
  6. Check working voltage and pulse loading: neither can be inferred from package size or nominal wattage.
  7. For low resistance: account for pads, solder and copper traces; consider four-wire measurement where required.
  8. Verify packaging: confirm package size, pieces per value and whether the selection is a single value or mixed kit.

1210 versus 1206

Both have a similar nominal length, but 1210 is wider. They use different land patterns and are not direct substitutes. The extra area may improve thermal spreading within a specific family, but it does not guarantee a universal 0.5W rating.

Power and precision boundaries

Many listings state 0.5W or 1/2W, but that claim applies only to the specified product and operating conditions. The 0.1% low-TCR claim belongs to one thin-film listing and must not be extended to the whole collection. Verify working voltage, TCR, stability, overload and derating for the exact value selected.

Mixed-product boundaries

Some listings combine 0201, 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, 1210, 1812, 2010, 2220 or 2512 options. Only variants explicitly marked 1210 / 3225 are 1210 resistors. One shared listing contains capacitors rather than resistors, and another contains 3225 ferrite beads. Capacitor voltage and capacitance data and ferrite-bead impedance data must not be treated as resistor specifications.

Ordering checklist

  • 1210 imperial / 3225 metric footprint
  • Resistance and notation
  • Thick-film or thin-film technology
  • Tolerance, TCR and stability
  • Power and thermal derating
  • Working voltage and pulse requirements
  • Single value or mixed assortment
  • Exact package selected in shared listings

Frequently asked questions

Are 1210 and 1206 interchangeable?

No. Their widths and PCB land patterns differ, and electrical ratings must also be checked.

Is every 1210 resistor rated at 0.5W?

No. The rating depends on the exact product, construction and thermal conditions.

Does 0.1% tolerance guarantee low TCR?

No. Tolerance and TCR are separate specifications. Verify both.

Can every low-ohm 1210 be used for current sensing?

No. Confirm technology, TCR, power, overload behavior and layout requirements.

Is a 3225 ferrite bead a 1210 resistor?

No. It shares approximate dimensions but performs a different frequency-dependent function.

Do all kits contain only 1210 resistors?

No. Several listings combine multiple packages, and one shared listing contains capacitors.
