555 Timer ICs, NE555 Chips, Kits and Relay Modules
555 timer ICs, oscillator parts and ready-built delay modules
Explore timer components for pulse generation, time-delay control and electronics prototyping. This collection includes NE555-family single timer ICs in through-hole and surface-mount packages, selected CMOS 555 variants, NE556 dual timers, DIP sockets and IC assortments, plus assembled DC delay-relay boards. The product title may mention several different chips: the selected variant determines which component, package, voltage version and quantity you receive. A bare IC is not a prewired relay module, and a relay module is not an interchangeable replacement for a loose 8-pin IC.
What a 555 timer does
A 555 is a timing building block rather than a calendar clock. In an external circuit it can produce a one-shot pulse (monostable operation), repeat pulses (astable operation), or participate in threshold and latch functions. Timing depends on the external resistor and capacitor network, component tolerances, supply conditions and the exact IC. The familiar one-shot approximation t ≈ 1.1RC and astable relationships are design starting points for a conventional circuit, not guaranteed timing specifications for every chip or complete board in this collection. For precision timing, verify the actual device datasheet and measure the assembled circuit across the required conditions.
Select the correct IC family and package
- NE555, NE555P and NE555N: Listings predominantly offer single bipolar 555 timers. DIP-8 versions are suited to corresponding through-hole footprints and compatible 8-pin sockets; confirm the marking and selected package before ordering. A listing's unsupported claims of original manufacture, exact current handling or operating temperature should not be treated as verified device ratings.
- NE555D, NE555DR and other SOIC/SOP-8 options: These are surface-mount selections. Match the actual package drawing, pin pitch and ordering suffix to the PCB footprint; a SOP-8 selection does not fit a DIP-8 socket. Package and tape/reel suffixes may vary by supplier.
- TS555CN and TLC555CDR: These listings are CMOS-family 555 timer options rather than simply repackaged NE555 bipolar parts. Supply range, supply current, output drive, threshold behavior and output levels are device-dependent; check the precise datasheet before substituting either in an existing circuit. The listed TS555CN option is described as DIP-8, while TLC555CDR is described as SOP-8.
- NE556 / NE556N: A dual-timer IC in a DIP-14 listing, not a single DIP-8 NE555. It offers two timing sections in a different footprint and requires its own pinout and design checks. Do not order it as a direct 8-pin replacement.
- NA555, SA555, SE555, NE555PSR and LM555CM: Additional selected models occur in this collection. Their prefixes and suffixes can represent different temperature grades, packages or device families. A product title that lists several of them does not mean one purchase contains every model; choose the exact variant and verify the manufacturer's part-specific data.
Loose chips, sockets, sets and assortments
Several products sell quantity choices such as 10, 20, 50 or 100 ICs, and some titles advertise DIP-8 sockets alongside chips. Read the selected variant and the individual listing's pack breakdown: one option may be ICs only, another sockets only, and another a matched number of ICs and sockets. A title saying “20 pieces (10 each)” must not be interpreted as 20 chips plus 20 sockets without checking its actual contents. Listings marked 1 set, 5 sets or multiple sets count bundles differently from individual ICs. Assortment listings also include LM358, LM324, ULN2803 or other integrated circuits; those are separate functions, not 555 timers, and the chosen model matters more than the keywords in the shared title.
Some multi-model products offer NE555P DIP-8 or NE555D SOP-8 alongside NE5532, LM358, LM386, LM393, TL072, TL081, UA741, CD40xx, 74HC595, L293D, TL494, UC384x or VIPer22A selections. Choosing one of these other variants does not supply a 555 timer. In those listings, “10 PCS” describes the pack size for the selected model where the listing says so, not a mixed bag of every chip named in the title. Confirm exact model, package and count at checkout.
Assembled DC relay timer modules
Delay-relay products in this collection are populated control boards, not loose NE555 chips. Listed options include nominal DC 5 V, 12 V and 24 V versions, depending on the board; select the voltage that matches the specific module and verify its supply polarity, trigger type and load-contact rating in the product's own documentation. A 5 V module cannot automatically be powered from 12 V, and a relay's contact rating is independent of its coil or board supply voltage.
One TRM01-style listing describes selectable power-on delay, delayed release, self-locking and trigger-delay functions, with an advertised adjustment range of approximately 0.1–120 seconds. Those modes and numbers refer to that listing, not to every relay board here. Other NE555 delay-board listings describe shorter adjustable ranges and distinguish conduction/on-delay from disconnect/off-delay in the selected variant. Check whether the timer begins on power-up or after an input trigger, whether a repeated trigger resets timing, what state the relay takes on power loss, and whether the required contact is normally open or normally closed. Descriptions using “self-locking,” “delay on” and “delay off” do not establish a common behavior across different designs.
Use the exact board's published terminal diagram and verified load specification before integrating a relay into equipment. Do not infer mains suitability from the presence of a relay, from low-voltage control power, or from an unverified certification phrase in a supplier listing. For hazardous voltage or consequential switching, use appropriate isolation, protective hardware and a qualified designer or installer. This collection description is not a universal wiring guide.
Engineering selection checklist
- Function: Do you need a bare oscillator/timer building block, a dual timer, a parts assortment or a ready-assembled time-delay relay? A 555 IC does not independently display time or preserve a real-world date.
- Electrical compatibility: Check the exact manufacturer's supply-voltage limits, input thresholds, output drive, reset behavior, operating temperature and required supply decoupling. Never assume the same values for bipolar NE555, CMOS TS555/TLC555 or an assembled relay board.
- Mechanical fit: Confirm DIP-8 versus SOP/SOIC-8 versus DIP-14; compare package drawing, pin 1 orientation, pitch and PCB footprint. A socket bundle generally applies to a through-hole DIP device rather than an SMD chip.
- Timing design: Evaluate timing resistance, capacitance, leakage, capacitor type and tolerance, temperature drift, duty cycle and startup behavior for the selected circuit. Very long delays or tightly specified pulse width may call for a different timer architecture or calibration.
- Order contents: Read the active variant's exact model, package, DC voltage if relevant, count, socket inclusion and accessory list. “Original,” “high precision” or a manufacturer name in a third-party product title is not independent authentication or a verified performance guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Is every item in this collection a NE555 chip? No. It includes NE556 dual timers, CMOS 555 variants, assembled delay-relay modules, socket sets and multi-model IC listings whose selected option can be a completely different component.
Can a CMOS 555 replace a bipolar NE555? Sometimes a design can be adapted, but do not assume drop-in electrical equivalence. Check supply, output load, thresholds, timing network and package against both exact datasheets.
Does a DIP socket work with an NE555DR SOP-8 chip? No. DIP-8 and SOP-8 use different physical footprints. Choose the socket and chip format together.
Does the 5 V / 12 V / 24 V relay title mean one module accepts all three? Not necessarily. The voltage is commonly a separate purchase option; select the correct board variant and verify its own rating.
