BC558 PNP Transistors and TO-92 Assortment Kits

Compare BC558-family PNP bipolar transistor selections and TO-92 mixed transistor assortments. Some multi-model pages let you order a single chosen BC558, BC558B or BC558C model; other listings are prepacked kits containing BC558 alongside different NPN and PNP devices. Choose the exact option and check its packing list: a shared product title is not a promise that every selection contains BC558.

Single-model choices

  • Several TO-92 selection pages offer BC558B or BC558C in a 50-piece option, BC558B in a 100-piece option, or BC558 in a listing labeled 50 or 1,000 pieces. Confirm the actual quantity on the chosen product, not on a different listing with the same model.
  • The B and C suffixes identify gain-group designations. They do not mean box types or piece counts. Compare the selected manufacturer's datasheet at the relevant gain test current; do not assume unspecified BC558, BC558B and BC558C are identical selections.
  • These same pages offer other BC models, including PNP BC556/BC557/BC559/BC560/BC327/BC640 and NPN BC546/BC547/BC548/BC549/BC550/BC337/BC639. Some pages also offer BC517 Darlington devices or TL431A voltage-reference selections. Choosing one of those options does not supply BC558.

Mixed packs and per-model counts

One ten-value TO-92 assortment identifies BC327, BC337, BC517, BC547, BC548, BC549, BC550, BC556, BC557 and BC558. A 200-piece version listing 20 of each model therefore has 20 BC558 devices, not 200; a 100-piece ten-value version labeled ten per type would have ten. The 24-value assortments list 480 pieces at 20 per type or 840 pieces at 35 per type, including BC558 in their specified breakdown. A one-box/three-box selection changes the number of boxes, so confirm the exact contents per selected option. Other named kit variants span different model families and may not contain BC558. One ten-model listing simultaneously says “each model 10pcs” and “250pcs”; its total quantity is inconsistent, so verify its actual packing list rather than relying on either figure.

Selection checklist

  1. Confirm the selected model, polarity, suffix and whether the purchase is a single-model pack or a mixed kit. Labels such as “Color” or “Voltage” may select a device or kit quantity rather than a literal color or voltage.
  2. Match TO-92 package and pin assignment to the board and consult the actual manufacturer's datasheet for collector-emitter voltage, collector current, gain at operating current, saturation characteristics and dissipation under expected thermal conditions. A generic listing classification is not a device rating.
  3. For assortments, compare the selected variant's model-by-model count with the total; ask for confirmation where the two disagree. PNP and NPN devices are not drop-in interchangeable, and BC517's Darlington behavior differs from an ordinary small-signal BJT.

Frequently asked questions

Are BC558B and BC558C different pack sizes?

No. The suffix denotes a gain grouping. Pack size is separately stated in the selected product or option.

Does a 480-piece kit contain 480 BC558 transistors?

No. The 24-type kit descriptions specify 20 of each type, including 20 BC558. Verify the chosen kit's own breakdown.

Can I substitute BC548 for BC558?

Not directly: BC548 is NPN whereas BC558 is PNP. Check your circuit's required polarity, pinout and full datasheet specifications.

Does every kit option here include BC558?

No guarantee. Some shared listings provide alternate named assortments or single-model choices. Verify the exact selected variant's contents before purchase.
