Blue LEDs, Seven-Segment Displays and Illuminated Switches

Blue LED components, displays and illuminated controls

This collection brings together actual blue-emitting SMD LEDs, blue seven-segment display parts, a blue-lit cooling fan, illuminated automotive and wall switches, a 12 V LED light bar, and a small blue breathing-light kit. One listing offers red/green/blue laser modules rather than LEDs. Other pages use “blue LED” for a backlight, selectable display color or a blue option alongside red, green, white and yellow. Select the exact variant before assuming blue emission, quantity, switching behavior or electrical compatibility. These are different levels of assembly, not interchangeable blue diode packages.

Identify what you are buying

  • Bare SMD emitter: 3528 ice-blue, 0805 ice-blue and 1206 blue LEDs are component lots requiring PCB pads, polarity and external current control.
  • Multiplexed numeric display: a one-, two-, three- or five-digit blue seven-segment device has multiple internal LEDs, common pins and a pinout to match its driver. A TM1637 module adds control electronics; it is not a drop-in bare display.
  • Finished luminous assembly: a rigid LED bar, breathing-light kit, backlit fan or complete switch includes more parts and has its own supply and installation rules.
  • Backlit control: “blue LED” can describe just the light behind a rocker or touch switch. The load-switching contacts and illumination circuit must be selected separately.
  • Laser module: a nominal 450 nm blue dot laser is a directed laser source, not an ordinary wide-angle blue LED.

A selected product's wattage, operating voltage, optical wavelength, IP claim or certification should never be extended to the rest of this mixed assortment.

Blue SMD emitters: footprint, wavelength and drive

The 50- and 100-piece 3528 ice-blue listings provide a small surface-mount LED format, but their available descriptions do not establish a full dimensional, spectral or binning specification for both lots. Check the selected product drawing before setting a footprint or claiming a particular peak wavelength. The 100-piece 1206 blue LED listing gives a nominal body around 3.2 × 1.6 × 0.8 mm and markets a 460–470 nm hue at 20 mA, with differing 3.0–3.4 V and 3.0–3.6 V forward-voltage figures in its source text. Those ranges are seller-provided selection data, not a universal 1206 specification. Its “Max. Reverse Current” and “Max. Reverse Voltage” source fields contain dimensions and wavelength rather than meaningful reverse-bias ratings; do not design from those mislabeled entries.

The 100-piece 0805 ice-blue listings state approximately 2.0 × 1.2 × 0.8 mm, 475–480 nm, 72–90 mcd at 20 mA and 2.8–3.6 V in one description; another also presents 3.0–3.4 V in structured data. The apparent numbers differ between 0805 and 1206 examples, and luminous-intensity figures depend on measurement current and angle. “Ice blue” is a marketing color, not proof that every 3528, 0805 and 1206 chip falls into the same optical bin. For repeatable PCB production, match pad geometry, LED height, package orientation, polarity mark, wavelength/bin, luminous intensity and thermal conditions. Use a current-limited LED circuit rather than applying the advertised forward voltage as if it were a regulated power-input rating.

Lots are supplied as 50 or 100 pieces on the specific listings, not as a single LED or guaranteed production reel. Verify tape or loose packaging, count, color tolerance and handling method with the selected product when automated placement matters. A visually blue-looking lens or photograph cannot establish the emitted wavelength under power.

Seven-segment blue displays: common anode versus common cathode

Blue numeric LED displays here span 0.25-inch three-digit 2531AB/BB-style, 0.28-inch two-digit 2281AB/BB-style, 0.36-inch five-digit common-cathode, 0.56-inch one- and two-digit, and a larger 1.8-inch single-digit listing. The selected option labeled C-A means common anode; C-C means common cathode. These configurations require opposite current-flow conventions and a matching segment driver. “Support Language” is the option field name on several product pages, but the actual selectable content is polarity/size, not a spoken-language feature. Check exact part marking, digit count, pin count, common-pin positions, segment orientation and decimal-point placement before laying out a PCB.

Some examples name 10 pins for one-, two- or three-digit devices, 18 pins for a 0.56-inch dual-digit device and 12 pins for a 0.36-inch five-digit module. Even where the pin count matches, electrical pin assignments need not. The 0.36-inch five-digit common-cathode item advertises 20 mA continuous forward current and around 2 V average forward voltage; those describe a segment/junction under stated conditions, not a safe direct 2 V input for the entire display. The 1.8-inch display source names 5.4 V and simultaneously lists “Tube Chip Color: Red” despite its blue title; do not promise blue emission or a validated voltage on that product without confirming the actual shipped part.

A six-digit, 0.56-inch TM1637 board offers selected red, blue, white, yellow or green display colors and describes a nominal 5 V module with a two-signal-pin digital interface. Only “TM1637 blue” selects blue. The module integrates driver electronics and is functionally different from loose common-anode/cathode digit tubes: compare power input, logic interface, number of digits, physical dimensions and library/protocol support. A blue display selection does not necessarily share the forward-current specification of an unmounted display of the same visual height. Pack sizes also vary: two, ten or 100 pieces versus one module, so do not conflate digit count with purchased quantity.

Blue-backlit automotive and marine rocker switches

A large part of this collection comprises complete 12/24 V DC-marketed rockers with blue LED backlighting. Some are five-pin SPST ON–OFF switches; others use six-, seven-, eight- or ten-pin arrangements for different two-pole or three-position behavior. Several seller pages quote 20 A at 12 V DC and 10 A at 24 V DC for particular switches and nominal cutouts around 37 × 21 mm or 37.2 × 21.2 mm. Those are individual seller ratings, not a guarantee that every logo, socket, mounting bracket, panel and cable option carries current or has the same dimensions. Verify contact diagram, inrush/inductive-load limits, fuse protection, terminal size and cutout for the exact item.

Switch-action labels matter more than the face symbol. ON–OFF holds in the ON position, while (ON)–OFF returns when released. ON–OFF–ON has two maintained outer positions; (ON)–OFF–(ON) is momentary in both directions. Other choices mix a maintained and momentary side, such as ON–OFF–(ON) or (ON)–OFF–ON, and some have ON–ON–OFF arrangements. A three-position DPDT rocker for a bidirectional actuator is not automatically wired as a polarity-reversing controller just because its title says “reverse polarity.” Follow the selected switch's actual contact schematic and use appropriate motor-control safeguards. The blue LED may illuminate when power is present, when the load is ON or by a separately connected lighting circuit depending on the assembly; the color alone says nothing about contact state.

Winch IN/OUT, trim-tab left/right, bilge pump, GPS, fan, hazard and dozens of other words or icons are selectable face legends across these pages. A “GPS” or “Winch” symbol does not make the rocker an electronic GPS receiver or a winch motor controller. Some options explicitly offer a socket, terminal plug, cable, holder, aluminum/plastic bracket, switch panel or flasher relay instead of a rocker. On a seven-pin winch page, “switch panel,” “switch holder” and “Switch” are distinct deliverables. On a ten-pin page, “Plug Connector” is separate from the 8P or 10P switch variants. Inspect the full selected variant and included parts before ordering an accessory as if it were the illuminated switch.

Some pages claim IP66 or IP68, but protection levels differ by model and may apply to the exposed front when properly mounted, not necessarily to rear terminals. Salt spray, splash exposure and corrosion resistance require a complete protected installation. A seller's CE claim or “marine grade” wording is not blanket approval for a vessel's safety-critical or high-current circuit. Rated contact current and blue-LED supply are separate data points, and the installation must use correct wiring protection and a compatible DC system.

Wall controls, pushbuttons and switch panels

A BSEED touch-wall-switch listing offers many 1G/2G/3G combination choices for European-style wall installations and describes blue LED backlighting. “Gang” counts and combinations describe the control layout, not a selectable bare blue LED. Determine exact mains supply, load type, wiring topology, wall-box fit and local electrical approval before purchase or installation; a generic current and certification string in source metadata does not prove every arrangement is suitable for a given building circuit.

A 19 mm pushbutton page offers two-piece packs, five selected LED colors and separate momentary/latching choices. Selecting Red, White, Yellow or Green does not produce a blue button merely because the title mentions a blue LED. Check selected LED voltage, contact rating, included wires, actual switch circuit and the symbol accessory arrangement. A five-piece oval three-pin rocker likewise has distinct Blue LED 12VDC and Red LED 12VDC options. Neither a 19 mm round pushbutton nor a 12 mm oval rocker is mechanically equivalent to a 37 × 21 mm automotive rectangular rocker.

One- through four-gang 12 V panels are sold by selected button count, with blue lighting and mini rockers in aluminum panels; the seller mentions a maximum 10 A at 12 V and different face widths for one, two, three and four groups. Another listing explicitly says a prebuilt panel with mounting screws; do not assume every page includes USB ports just because “USB” appears in the title. Confirm the number of functional switches, mounting-hole spacing, wiring loom and any USB outlet from the selected item. Never infer that a 4-gang face permits four loads each at the headline rating without reviewing the shared feed and individual protection.

Finished lighting and indicator-adjacent electronics

A 40 × 40 × 10 mm 4010 fan is described as a two-wire 5 V DC, 0.11 A cooling fan with blue LED lighting. It moves air; it is not a 5 V bare diode or a 12 V LED strip. Verify connector, airflow direction, bearing, noise/flow data and current allowance for the printer or heatsink rather than selecting by LED color. A digital voltmeter/ammeter listing exposes mutually different “LM2596S,” “Kit” and “DSN-VC288” selections. The LM2596 buck-converter portion and DSN-VC288 red/blue numerical meter perform different tasks; a selected kit's contents should be confirmed instead of assuming each variant includes both. Their voltage/current display numbers do not set the safe operating voltage for a blue SMD LED.

The 50 cm/20-inch rigid aluminum bar listing offers DC 12 V products with U- or V-shaped channels, white or transparent diffusers, selected red, green or blue emission and packs of 2–20. A title mentioning RGB does not prove that an individual “U36 white Blue” or “V36 Transparent Red” selection is a three-channel color-mixing bar. Read profile, diffuser, light color, included caps/clips and piece count together. Its 36-LED/5730 terminology is an assembly-level description, not an invitation to drive its individual diodes from an arbitrary supply. A small 5 mm blue breathing-lamp DIY kit lists DC 9 V and selections of 1/2/3/4/5/10 kits; it includes a circuit board and components, not simply that number of 5 mm loose LEDs.

Laser modules: distinct optical technology and eye safety

The three-piece dot-light listing provides either one each of nominal 650 nm red, 520 nm green and 450 nm blue modules, or three pieces of a selected wavelength. It markets 5 mW and 3–5 V, but those are product-specific seller claims, not verified laser classification or an LED operating specification. A blue-selected 450 nm laser produces a concentrated beam and is not the same thing as a blue indicator LED or diffused light bar. Never view a direct or reflected beam, point it at people or vehicles, or infer eye safety from the listed milliwatts. Verify exact wavelength, output power, classification, driver, labeling and applicable local controls for the selected module before use.

Selection checklist for engineers and makers

  1. Function: bare SMD LED, multiplexed digit tube, driven TM1637 module, backlit control, fan, light bar, DIY kit or laser.
  2. Blue actually selected: color options on displays, pushbuttons, rockers and bars may also be red, green, yellow or white; laser packs may mix three wavelengths.
  3. Electrical level: forward current and voltage apply to a diode junction; 5 V module/fan, 9 V kit, 12 V bar and 12/24 V switch have their own specified input and load-contact ratings.
  4. Mechanical/electrical match: SMD footprint and polarity, digit count/common-anode or common-cathode pinout, rocker pin count/contact action, mounting cutout, cable and connector.
  5. Included quantity: a 50/100-piece LED lot, 2/10/100-piece display lot, one TM1637 board, 2–20 rigid bars or switch-only versus socket/bracket selection are different purchase units.
  6. Evidence and safety: check the exact item's drawing, measured optical and electrical data, waterproofing scope and applicable approvals. Use qualified installation for mains and safety-relevant vehicle or marine systems.

The current products remain in this collection even where “blue LED” describes only a backlight, a selectable color or a laser-related search term. Product details and the selected variant determine the actual delivered item.
