4000 Series CMOS Logic ICs, Kits and Related Components

Find the real 4000-series logic product in a mixed collection

This collection includes CD, HEF and HCF 4000-series CMOS logic IC assortments, individual 4000-series devices, and many cross-listed electronics with “CMOS” or “4000” in a different context. The 4000-series designation does not describe one function: a CD4013 flip-flop, CD4067 multiplexer, CD4017 counter and CD4066 analog switch are not interchangeable. Nor does the presence of a CMOS image sensor, CMOS EEPROM or a 4,000-piece capacitor lot turn that product into a CD40xx logic chip. Identify the exact selected model, function, package and order contents before purchasing.

4000-series CMOS logic: functions represented here

CD4001 is a NOR-gate family and CD4011 a NAND-gate family; CD4081 is AND, CD4071 is OR and CD4070 is XOR. CD4069 and CD4049 are inverter/buffer families with device-specific output characteristics, while CD4093 is a Schmitt-trigger NAND type. CD40106 is a Schmitt-trigger inverter; it does not perform the same Boolean operation as CD4093. CD4072 and CD4073 have different gate/input arrangements from two-input 4071 and 4081 choices. Consult each manufacturer's truth table, thresholds and output circuit; a “CMOS logic kit” headline does not establish identical gate count, pin assignment or switching behavior for every chip inside.

CD4013/HEF4013BT/TC4013BP are dual D flip-flop options in DIP-14, SOP-14 or other explicitly named packages, storing logic state on a defined clock event subject to set/reset controls. CD4017 is a decade counter/divider, CD4040 and CD4020 are binary counter families, and CD4060 is a counter with oscillator-related functionality requiring an appropriate external design. HEF4518BT and HEF4520BT are counter-family options. CD4027 denotes a different flip-flop function from CD4013, and CD4042 is a latch. CD4094 is a shift-register family, while HEF4528BT/HEF4538BT and CD4541 are timing-related parts. Check active clock edge, control polarity, asynchronous behavior, output encoding, propagation delays and state at startup for the actual manufacturer's full code.

CD4066 is an analog-switch family. CD4051, CD4052 and CD4053 are analog multiplexer/switch families with different channel and control arrangements; the separate CD4067BE DIP-24 listing is a higher-channel-count analog multiplexer/demultiplexer option, not a drop-in replacement for CD4066 or CD4051. Check analog signal range against the chosen supply rails, on-resistance, leakage, bandwidth, off isolation and digital control thresholds at operating conditions. A “DIP-24” label does not make an analog switch a 24-bit digital logic device. CD4046 is a phase-locked-loop family, CD4047 a timing/oscillator-related part, CD4511 a BCD display decoder/driver, and CD4543 another display-related option. Display device compatibility and current limiting depend on the exact selected part and the external circuit.

Assortment kits versus single-model orders

Listings describe HEF/HCF/CD DIP 4000-series assortment kits with model sets such as 4001, 4002, 4007, 4011, 4013, 4015, 4017, 4020, 4021 and 4026, or 4060 through 4093-related selections. Other kit headlines specify 12 types with five pieces each, totaling 60 pieces, a 28-value SMD kit, or a 30-type CD40xx DIP assortment. These may be genuinely mixed packs, but confirm the packing list and per-model quantities for the particular kit rather than treating a headline list as a universal inventory promise. An isolated seller code such as “40374” in a kit title should not be silently corrected into a different chip without an explicit packing list. DIP through-hole and SMD surface-mount assortments require different board layouts.

A kit product with Color choices “4001 To 4026,” “4027 To 4053,” “4060 To 4093” or “4094 To 40106” offers separate named selections. A range label does not guarantee every integer code within that range, and “4001–4543” does not mean thousands of unique values. Another broad selector includes 74LS, 74HC, CD4000 and 100/115-piece IC-socket choices: sockets are not logic chips, while 74LS TTL and 74HC CMOS have different electrical families from CD4000. Check the chosen variant's contents rather than assuming the product title supplies all advertised kit groups.

A HEF4081BT/HEF4093BT/HEF4094BT/HEF4518BT/HEF4520BT/HEF4528BT/HEF4538BT listing has Color choices for one device code and Model Number choices for 2pcs or 5pcs. This describes alternative single-model orders, not a pack of all seven types. A CD4017BE listing offers 1, 5 or 10 pieces with the same specified model; a CD4013BE versus CD4013BM Color menu selects DIP or SOP. Neither is automatically an assortment. Some supplier descriptions use “original” or “100% quality”; those words are not independent verification of manufacturer origin, certification, testing or traceability.

Electrical and mechanical checks before substitution

“4000-series CMOS” spans devices, vendors and revisions with different recommended supply limits, VIH/VIL thresholds, VOH/VOL under load, input leakage, drive, delay and operating temperature. Check the complete manufacturer code and datasheet at the actual supply voltage and loading. Do not treat an absolute-maximum voltage as a normal operating condition. CMOS inputs left floating can switch unpredictably; set unused pins to defined levels as the exact documentation requires. Review decoupling, clock quality, power-on reset and interfacing to TTL/HC/HCT or analog circuitry in the completed design. This collection does not provide a universal high-voltage or mains wiring recipe.

Verify package and footprint by manufacturer outline: DIP-14, DIP-16, DIP-24, SOP-14/16 or another small-outline option have different pin counts, pitches and body widths. The selected suffix can alter packaging format or dimensions. A bare CD4013 chip is not a working control board, and a programming accessory or IC socket does not contain the corresponding functional semiconductor unless explicitly stated. Confirm pin one, mounting method and available supply rails before committing to a PCB or repair replacement.

“CMOS” outside the CD4000 logic family

The listed IMX362-based 12 MP USB webcam board uses a CMOS image sensor. It is an assembled USB imaging module, not a CD40xx logic IC; its “Sensor Size” selector actually distinguishes 1 m, 2 m and 3 m USB-cable choices. Claims about 4K, autofocus, USB compatibility and image rate must be evaluated against the specific module, host and software rather than transferred to any bare logic chip. HIH-4000-003 is a humidity-sensor model; the number 4000 is part of its model family, not a CD4000 logic function. A separate “Original Out of stock” listing has a 1PCS HIH-4000-003 selection, so its availability and condition must be checked on the actual product rather than inferred from the collection.

CAT24C04WI-GT3 and CAT24C08WI-GT3 choices are I2C serial EEPROM memory parts with different advertised bit densities, not logic-gate variants. W25Q128JVSIQ is a serial Flash memory product, while 93LC66 options, HM6264/HY6264 RAM and KM44C4100CK memory have other interfaces and operating requirements. “CMOS” describes a semiconductor technology in many of these devices; it does not confer common pinout, data capacity, clocking or interchangeability. Verify byte versus bit units, command protocol, supply, package and host/programmer compatibility for a memory repair. VS4000P is a programmer product, not a logic IC, despite the “4000” number in its model.

Additional cross-listed digital parts include SN74HC390N and SN74HC161N counters, 74HC14/HCT14 Schmitt inverters, 74HC377/273/574 and 74LS74/74HCT74/74LVC74 flip-flops, CPLD/FPGA-style EPM1270/EPM3256 options, Z80 PIO and laptop mainboards with processor Configuration choices. These are not CD4000 parts merely because some implement logic using CMOS technology. A 74HC14 headline calling the part a “flip-flop” is inconsistent with its inverter function; check the exact datasheet. A complete Dell laptop motherboard is a board-level replacement, not a loose logic IC.

Other cross-listed components and assemblies

A 2000–4000-piece 0805 capacitor listing uses “4000” for the quantity; its Color options specify capacitance, voltage and piece count. A 36-kind transistor sample book offers 900 or 1800 individual SMD parts, not 4000-series logic. DIP IC sockets are mechanical connectors offered by pin count and width; a 24-pin Wide option is not a CD4067 chip. The LCR-T4 transistor tester is an instrument/kit, not the semiconductor under test. A 300 W mono amplifier board and an A003 2.1-channel amplifier board are assembled audio products with their own power and load conditions, not a CD40xx integrated-circuit set.

Other visible listings cover power MOSFETs and IGBTs (IRFP90N20D, G40N60UFD, STGP10NC60KD, 2SK series), TVS diodes, SCRs/triacs (TYN, MCR100, BTA41), voltage regulators and references (78Mxx, L78S05CV, LM4040, TL431), switch-mode control ICs (FSDM0565R, TOP24x, SG684x, XL40xx), op amps (LM358, LM324, MC33079), motor drivers, display modules and automotive regulators. Shared numbers such as XL4015, LM4040 or vehicle part number 4014029 do not signify CD4015, CD4040 or CD4014. Treat any mains, battery or high-energy automotive application as its own controlled engineering task under the equipment manufacturer's documentation. No shared certification, output power, supply voltage or universal compatibility is implied by being listed together.

Selection workflow for buyers and engineers

  1. Identify the physical category: bare 4000-series CMOS logic IC, multi-chip assortment, socket, sensor/camera module, memory, programmer, power semiconductor or assembled board. Do not search by number alone.
  2. Define the function: gate truth table, counter modulus and reset, flip-flop clocking, analog-switch signal range, display-driver polarity or timer mode. For a kit, identify which exact component codes are included.
  3. Read the final selected option: Color may mean a different model; Model Number may mean 2pcs/5pcs; Sensor Size can mean cable length; Voltage can indicate quantity on an unrelated listing. Never derive order contents from a multi-code title alone.
  4. Validate the complete manufacturer code: compare recommended supply, input/output levels, drive, leakage, timing and temperature to the actual circuit. Confirm package outline, pinout and pin-one orientation. An identical base number with a different prefix or suffix needs its own datasheet check.
  5. For analog or memory parts: examine signal rail limits, analog performance, protocol, capacity, ECC or host support as appropriate. These specifications cannot be inherited from a CMOS logic gate.
  6. Check evidence and safety: vendor wording about “original,” “tested,” “new” or headline performance is not independent proof. Do not use a generic collection description to make hazardous wiring, repair or high-voltage substitutions.

Frequently asked questions

Are CD4001, CD4013 and CD4067 interchangeable?

No. CD4001 is a NOR logic-gate family, CD4013 a dual D flip-flop family and CD4067 an analog multiplexer/demultiplexer family. Different functions, pinouts and electrical requirements demand separate design checks.

Does a “28-value CMOS kit” contain 28 of every part?

Not necessarily. “Values” can mean distinct types, not per-type quantity. Read the exact kit packing list and selected DIP or SMD version to establish model counts and included accessories.

Can a CMOS webcam be used as a CD4000 logic device?

No. CMOS describes the sensor technology in the webcam board; the assembled USB imaging module has an entirely different function and interface from a CD40xx logic IC.

Does HEF4081BT/HEF4093BT/HEF4094BT in one title include all of them?

The listing provides individual Color choices for those codes plus a 2- or 5-piece quantity selection. Check the selected combination; a headline list is not evidence of a mixed pack.

Is a CD4067 compatible with a CD4051 footprint?

Do not assume so. The listed CD4067BE is DIP-24 and represents a different analog-multiplexer channel structure from a CD4051 option. Verify exact pinout, board footprint, control mapping and electrical limits.

Are 4000-series CMOS ICs all rated for the same voltage?

No collection-wide supply range is guaranteed. Use recommended conditions in the chosen manufacturer's datasheet, including signal thresholds and output loading at your intended voltage.
