CMOS Inverter Gate ICs, Schmitt Triggers and Related Components
CMOS inverter gates and the wider set of related listings
Find 74HC04 hex inverters, 74HC14 and CD40106 Schmitt-trigger inverters, CD4069 inverter options and single- or dual-gate logic parts. This is a broad, mixed collection: its existing listings also include NAND, NOR, XOR and AND gates, three-state buffers, analog multiplexers, MOSFET gate drivers, power inverters and accessories. A product that contains the word inverter can mean logical inversion, voltage conversion or DC-to-AC power conversion; those are not interchangeable functions. Select by the exact IC or board model and option rather than assuming everything on this page is a CMOS NOT gate.
What a digital inverter actually does
A digital NOT gate produces a logic output opposite to its input under the device's specified supply and input conditions. A 74HC04 is a hex inverter: six independent inverting stages in one package. This collection contains dedicated SOP-14 74HC04D lots and a selectable listing with 74HC04PW TSSOP-14, 74HC04D SOP-14 and SN74HC04N DIP-14 as distinct mounting formats. The 14-pin package contains six gates, not fourteen independent channels. Check the selected manufacturer's pin assignment, power pins, package footprint, output-drive limits and input thresholds before designing a board.
74HC14, SN74HC14N, SN74HCT14N, 74VHC14 and CD40106 refer to Schmitt-trigger inverter offerings in this catalog. Hysteretic switching can be valuable with appropriately conditioned slow-changing or noisy digital signals, but the rising and falling thresholds, voltage range, propagation delay and output capability depend on the exact logic family and supplier. Do not assume a Schmitt-trigger input is electrically equivalent to an ordinary 74HC04 input, or that HC, HCT, LVC, AHC and VHC devices share the same operating voltage or input thresholds. A CD40106 listing offers DIP-14 CD40106BE and SOP-14 CD40106BM separately. Single-gate SN74LVC1G14DBVR and SN74AHC1G04GV selections and dual-channel SN74LVC2G14 listings use compact SOT-style packages rather than the hex-gate DIP footprint; confirm exact order code and manufacturer drawing.
Compare ordinary and Schmitt-trigger inverter options
- 74HC04 / SN74HC04N / 74HC04D / 74HC04PW: ordinary hex logic inversion, with DIP, SOP and TSSOP choices where shown. Match package and electrical family independently.
- 74HC14D / SN74HC14N / SN74HCT14N: six inverting Schmitt-trigger channels. HCT's input-level behavior is not automatically identical to HC's; validate the actual VCC and threshold conditions.
- CD4069UBM: one mixed listing offers this unbuffered hex inverter, while its other selectable options are CD4073BM and CD4072BM gates with different functions. Do not assume those selections are also inverters. Unbuffered versus buffered CMOS behavior must be checked in the actual datasheet for the intended circuit.
- Single/dual small-outline gates: SN74LVC1G14, SN74LVC2G14, SN74AHC1G04 and SN74LV1T04 offer different families, channel counts, input characteristics and tiny board footprints; the 'level' wording in a listing is not a promise of universal bidirectional level shifting.
Other logic gates are not NOT gates
Several listings are categorized alongside inverters despite providing another Boolean function. CD4001 is a quad two-input NOR, not a four-input NOR and not an inverter unless deliberately configured in an appropriate circuit. CD4070 and CD4030 are quad two-input XOR types, CD4077 is XNOR, CD4081 is AND, and CD4025 is triple three-input NOR. 74HC00 provides quad two-input NAND gates; a menu of 74HC00D/02D/04D/08D/14D/32D/74D/86D and 27D lists separate options, not a guaranteed assortment. MC14071B is described by one headline as an inverter, but the 4071 function denotes OR gates; do not rely on that conflicting headline for a NOT-gate design. Some 'VHC125 inverter Schmitt trigger' title text also conflicts with its 125 buffer function. Check actual part markings and the correct datasheet, not keyword labels, before substitution.
SN74LVC1G125 and SN74AHCT1G125 are three-state non-inverting buffer options rather than inverter gates. A three-state output has a high-impedance mode; that does not imply inverted logic. SN74LVC1G08 is an AND-gate module, CD74HC4051 and CD74HC4067 are analog multiplexing/switching devices, and TS3A5018 is an analog switch. Their input/output structure and use cases differ from a digital hex NOT gate. A mixed IC and socket assortment may offer separately selectable 4000-, 74HC- and 74LS-series ranges or a 100-/115-piece socket option; a range label is not proof that every code in the range is shipped together. Consult that product's actual kit contents.
Gate-driver IC versus logic gate
UCC27517DBVR, IRS2186/IRS21867, FD6288, FAN7387, EG2113-family selections, IRS21531, IR2104, IR2110/IR2112/IR2113 and UCC21220 are power-stage gate-driver listings or related power-control devices. They are intended for defined switching-stage roles, not simply a hex CMOS NOT-gate replacement. Their output stages, supply rails, protection, isolation or high-side behavior, if any, depend on the exact device and reference design. The term gate driver refers to driving a MOSFET/IGBT gate, not necessarily implementing a Boolean logic gate. Match the exact chip, package, operating ratings and application-specific manufacturer documentation before designing or servicing power electronics. No universal mains, battery or high-voltage wiring guidance is implied here.
MC34063/MC33063, TPS54360, LM5017, ICL7660, buck modules and auxiliary power boards are voltage-conversion products. MOSFETs such as AO3400, IRFB4110 and other TO-252/TO-247 choices, IGBTs, triacs and transistors are discrete switching devices. An IPM module, EGS002/EG8010 driver board, STM32 SPWM development board, modified-sine inverter board and complete off-grid inverter system are radically different purchase units. A complete system's headline power rating, panel or controller configuration does not describe the performance of a bare logic IC, and a driver PCB is not a certified finished inverter. The collection also contains a logic probe, SOP-to-DIP adapter boards, oscillator, optical-flow sensor, USB/RS485 converter and unrelated chips; these remain separate accessories or components rather than being misrepresented as CMOS inverter gates.
Practical selection checklist
- Specify the function: choose ordinary inversion, Schmitt-trigger inversion, another Boolean gate, bus buffering, analog switching, power-stage drive or DC/AC conversion deliberately. Similar words in seller titles do not mean the same circuit.
- Choose the full order code: suffixes and family prefixes determine package and characteristics. Verify the selected variant, not merely the list of model names in a product headline. A Color option can identify 74HC04 versus 74HC14, CD4069 versus CD4073, or a different power driver; a Voltage or Model Number field can instead represent pack quantity.
- Check input and output levels: calculate supply rails, recommended operating range, VIH/VIL or hysteresis thresholds, output current and load conditions from the selected manufacturer's datasheet. An HC device at one supply voltage is not automatically compatible with a lower-voltage controller.
- Check timing and signal integrity: propagation delay, transition-time limits for standard CMOS inputs, Schmitt-trigger thresholds and switching frequency matter. Floating CMOS inputs should not be treated as valid logic levels; plan the circuit against the device's documented input requirements.
- Match physical construction: DIP-14, SOP/SOIC-14, TSSOP-14 and compact SOT packages require different footprints or appropriate adapters. Adapter boards are separate items and do not themselves include the target IC unless the individual listing explicitly says so.
- Verify count and provenance: single items, 5/10/20/50/100-piece lots and selectable kits coexist. Seller phrases such as '100% original' or 'quality assurance' are not independent authentication, electrical characterization or certification by this collection description.
Frequently asked questions
Is 74HC14 a direct substitute for 74HC04?
Not as a blanket rule. Both invert, but 74HC14 uses Schmitt-trigger input behavior whereas 74HC04 uses ordinary logic inputs. Verify package pinout, thresholds, supply, timing and load for your actual circuit.
Does 'inverter' mean this item turns DC into AC?
Not necessarily. A CMOS logic inverter changes a digital logic state. Power inverter boards and systems perform energy conversion and must be evaluated as separate products with their own documentation.
Does a multi-model Color menu deliver all named parts?
Usually not. The chosen option identifies the model or lot. Only a specifically documented assortment includes multiple part types, and the exact contents must be read in that listing.
What is the difference between a MOSFET gate driver and a CMOS NOT gate?
A gate driver is built to control a switching transistor under its specified power-stage conditions. A logic NOT gate provides digital inversion within its logic-family output ratings. Neither is a universal replacement for the other.
Can I use the board voltage or power figure for a loose gate IC?
No. Ratings for a finished converter, SPWM board or power inverter are system-specific and cannot be assigned to a 74HC04, 74HC14 or CD40106 chip.
