DC-DC Converter Modules and Power Inductors
DC-DC power conversion: modules, ICs and magnetic parts
This collection mixes complete DC-DC converter modules with the inductors and other parts used in some power circuits. It includes adjustable and fixed-output buck (step-down), boost (step-up), step-up/down and selected isolated power modules; an LT3582-series converter IC listing; wound CDRH, CD, molded SMD and DIP inductors; larger PFC/filter coils, a bare sendust toroidal core, common-mode chokes and separate high-inductance audio/load chokes. A motor and a current-transmitter listing also appear here, but they are not DC-DC inductors. Decide whether the required item is a finished converter, an IC, a wound coil or a bare core before comparing specifications.
How the listed types differ
- Finished converter modules: LM2587, LM2596-family and other buck, boost or buck-boost listings integrate a control circuit with power components. Check the exact selected variant's input-voltage range, adjustable or fixed output-voltage range, continuous output current, thermal derating, ripple, efficiency test point, isolation status, physical dimensions and protection features. Marketing wattage or ampere figures in shared titles are not guaranteed at every input/output combination. Non-isolated modules do not provide galvanic isolation.
- Isolated module and converter IC: An isolated DC-DC power module must be chosen by verified input and output limits, isolation specification, rated power and applicable safety requirements; it is not equivalent to a non-isolated regulator. An LT3582-series IC is an integrated circuit requiring the rest of a designed converter, not a complete ready-to-use power module or a loose inductor.
- Power inductors: CDRH104R, CD43, molded 1040/1050 and DIP 0608-style parts provide winding options in µH and mH for converter or filter designs. Match inductance under bias, saturation current (Isat), RMS/temperature-rise current (Irms), DCR, core loss at switching frequency, shielding and land pattern or pin spacing. A converter model name in a coil title does not establish drop-in compatibility with a specific board.
- Larger coils and core material: 47 mm FeSiAl wound filter/PFC choices vary by µH or mH, claimed current and horizontal or vertical mounting. An unwound sendust toroid has no specified finished-coil inductance. A 10 H canned choke or a 0.5 mH speaker crossover coil belongs to a different operating context than a compact DC-DC power inductor.
- Other search results: Common-mode chokes have coupled windings for noise attenuation, not one-winding energy storage. The motor and AC current transmitter should be evaluated by their own actual product specifications, not the DC-DC category name.
Selection checklist
- Identify the part's job: complete DC-DC module, controller IC, energy-storage inductor, EMI choke or unwound core. Record the exact reference part or circuit design.
- For a module, verify whether the topology can produce the desired output from the actual input range, then check output current and power with thermal conditions. A boost-only module cannot regulate an output below its input; read each listing's constraints rather than assuming a generic voltage conversion.
- For an inductor, calculate peak current including ripple and confirm Isat separately from Irms. Compare DCR, frequency losses, µH/mH units, tolerance, physical footprint and actual variant quantity; 1 mH = 1,000 µH.
- For high-power or high-voltage modules, follow the specific supplier's wiring, cooling and protection documentation and applicable electrical safety rules. A headline wattage, certification claim or source-seller brand name does not establish validated performance or authorized origin for every item.
FAQ
Is a DC-DC converter module just an inductor? No. A finished module includes a control and power-conversion circuit; an inductor is one passive component.
Can any 10 µH inductor replace the coil on my converter? No. The real design needs appropriate Isat, Irms, DCR, frequency loss, size and thermal behavior.
Does a 1,500 W headline mean that output is available for every voltage option? No. Confirm continuous power at the selected input, output and cooling conditions.
