LED Lights, Diodes, Strips and Lighting Accessories
LED lighting and diode components: identify the actual product first
This broad collection combines individual light-emitting diodes, LED modules, flexible strips, completed lamps and fixtures, plus connectors, cables, switches, mounts, controllers, power and repair accessories. It also contains electronics and tools that merely mention LED in their titles, such as soldering stations with LED displays, illuminated computer fans and test equipment. A search result here is not necessarily a diode or a light. Use the selected product and variant to establish what is physically supplied; the collection name cannot establish a common supply voltage, light output, wiring interface or application approval.
Component, module, strip, fixture or accessory?
- Bare emitters: 3/5 mm through-hole LEDs, miniature SMD chips, high-power beads, COB sources, UV and IR optoelectronic devices. These generally require a suitable drive circuit and thermal design.
- Indicator and display modules: red/blue eight-bit LED indicator boards offer common-anode and common-cathode variants and 1/5/10/20-piece packs. The board-level assembly is not the same as an individual diode, and its 3–24 V-marketed range must be checked for the exact module and operating configuration.
- Flexible light sources: COB, SMD and addressable LED strips differ in nominal 5/12/24 V supply, 220 V-rated plug-kit construction, channel count, length, width and environmental protection.
- Completed lights: bulbs, solar wall or security lamps, PIR fixtures, portable lights and automotive lamps include housings and application-specific power interfaces that differ from loose diodes.
- Electrical hardware: JST-SM/JWPF and two-pin strip connectors, power pigtails, clip mounts, corner joiners, terminal blocks, switches and tools may be useful in a lighting build but do not emit light themselves.
These categories are not substitutes for each other. “LED light” in a connector listing often names the intended application of the connector, not the item being sold. A soldering station's LED temperature display is not an LED lamp. A computer fan with ARGB lighting is a cooling assembly with separate fan-power and lighting-control interfaces.
How to choose a light-emitting diode
For loose SMD and through-hole components, start with package footprint, optical color or wavelength, polarity, maximum forward current, forward-voltage range, viewing angle and mechanical fit. 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, 2835, 3528, 5050 and 5730-style labels identify distinct form factors, but even matching package labels do not prove interchangeable land patterns, optical direction or thermal performance. Red, green, blue, warm-white, UV and IR selections are normally separate chips. A monochrome two-terminal diode cannot mix RGB light, while an RGB or RGBW emitter may have multiple junctions and terminals. Self-flashing diodes and externally driven multichannel LEDs need different control. Do not use the bare LED's forward voltage as a direct input-supply instruction; the selected device's rated drive conditions and current limiting are essential.
High-power chips and COB sources require a heat path as well as the right driver. A star PCB is a mounting carrier, not necessarily an integrated constant-current regulator or complete heatsink. “1 W,” “3 W,” or a headline lumen value cannot be safely assigned to every color or voltage variant. UV, near-UV and IR devices demand wavelength-specific precautions; their apparently dim output is not proof of safe exposure. One product's stated certification or lifetime is not evidence that all the chips on this page have the same certification or lifetime.
Strips: distinguish fixed color, CCT, RGB and addressable designs
Two-wire single-color tape, tunable-white tape, analog RGB/RGBW tape and addressable WS2811/WS2812B/SK6812-style systems differ electrically. Fixed warm-white tape will not change to blue simply because the seller offers a Blue variant. A four-pin analog RGB connector is not automatically suitable for a three-pin data strip; RGBW and RGBWW may require additional channels. Addressable strips require the matching data protocol, controller, logic reference and selected 5 V or 12 V supply; the number of LEDs per metre is not always the number of independently addressable pixels. Check actual voltage, polarity, pinout, strip width, LED density, length, wattage per metre and controller before ordering.
USB 5 V, 12 V and 24 V DC strips are not interchangeable with high-voltage mains strip kits. Longer tape may require distributed feeds and thermal mounting according to its product specification. A “waterproof” coating, IP20/IP65 choice or diffused silicone jacket does not automatically protect a cut end, a joiner or the power supply. A 220 V-marketed neon or COB strip with a plug, inline dimmer or timer belongs to a separately rated mains system; do not treat its connector as a general-purpose supply for low-voltage tape. Follow the selected kit's installation instructions and local electrical rules rather than a generic wiring diagram.
Connector and cable variants: pin count is only the start
Many listings here are JST-SM male/female pigtails, 2/3/4/5/6-pin pairs, 1-to-2 splitters and strip-to-strip or strip-to-wire clips. A 2-pin connector may carry a simple two-conductor circuit; a three-pin connector may serve a data-controlled strip; 4/5/6-pin products can serve different channel arrangements. Those are examples, not a universal pin mapping. Confirm mating housing family, contact spacing, keying, polarity, wire order and current rating for the exact product. Connector references such as “for 3528/5050 RGB/RGBW” identify suggested uses, not automatic cross-compatibility with every 3528 or 5050 tape.
Some JST-SM items offer 10, 15, 20 or 30 cm leads and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or 100 pair packs. A Male option, Female option and Male/Female pair are distinct deliverables. Other listings use ambiguous labels such as “50 PCS” under Package Quantity even when the headline refers to pairs; verify the selected product's actual package definition. JWPF-style sealed automotive housings may be listed as male half, female half or complete set in 2/3/4/6/8 pole options. Do not assume a selected 3P Female includes its mate, terminals, seals or prewired harness merely because another variant says whole set. Keying and sealing are only effective with the compatible mating components assembled correctly.
Two-conductor COB strip clips include 8 and 10 mm PCB options and straight, L-shaped or corner configurations. Some clips reference IP20 and coated IP65 tape; coating thickness can change fit even if the nominal PCB width matches. Fixing clips in 6/8/12/15 mm widths are mechanical holders rather than electrical joiners. A DC barrel pigtail, two-pin DuPont cable and solderless strip clip have different electrical and mechanical roles. Select wire gauge and run length for voltage drop and current, and check the exact 2 m cable's mating ends and whether its claimed 2/3/5 A capacity applies to the chosen gauge and installation conditions.
Power, switches and control interfaces
A push-button or rocker switch can have separate contact ratings and illumination supply ratings; a 12 V LED ring does not imply the switch contacts are restricted to 12 V, nor that the lamp can accept the switch's rated AC contact voltage. A red-anode indicator module and blue-cathode module have different common-terminal configurations. Smart controllers, dimmers, motion sensors and solar charging assemblies have different functions, and their inclusion depends on the particular selected listing. A product described as LED-compatible may still ship as controller-only, sensor-only, empty enclosure, battery box or power cable. Check whether a power source, plug, remote, battery, controller, driver or mounting hardware is actually in the chosen pack.
Terminal blocks, quick splice connectors and sealed cable glands need conductor size, strip length, clamping method, rated voltage/current and installation environment verified independently. A seller's IP67/IP68-marketed M12 sensor cable or outdoor T/Y/I junction does not make an arbitrary LED assembly waterproof. M12 A-coded 4/5/8/12-pin connectors, JST strip plugs and DIN panel sockets are distinct families even where they share a pin count. Do not mate on the basis of “LED” appearing in both product titles. A WAGO-labelled terminal operating screwdriver is a tool, not an electrical connector or a light.
Fixtures, solar lights and vehicle applications
Finished solar products include motion-sensing wall and security lights with separate emitter counts, head configurations, pack sizes and modes. Their runtime, sensor range, charging conditions and ingress protection cannot be generalized from an LED count in a headline. Check actual installed location, sunlight exposure, battery and control mode on the selected fixture. Vehicle lamps must match base, vehicle system voltage, size, polarity where applicable and local road-use rules. An LED headlight choice, decorative light and dashboard indicator serve different optical and legal purposes. Likewise, a USB inspection camera with six LEDs is a camera that uses illumination; it is not a pack of six loose diodes.
RGB computer case fans and illuminated coolers have airflow and thermal roles as well as decorative LEDs. Their fan PWM or DC supply, 5 V addressable RGB header, optional hub and motherboard interface must be evaluated separately. An illuminated diagnostic tester, oscilloscope or hot-air rework gun belongs to test/repair equipment; display illumination in the title does not make the instrument an LED lighting fixture. A hot-air gun listed as 110 V US or 220 V EU, heater-only or handle-only must be selected by actual deliverable and regional power requirement. These adjacent products remain present in this collection, but are not described as diode emitters.
Selection checklist for a reliable order
- Identify the supplied object: discrete LED, PCB module, flexible tape, completed light, connector, wire, controller, tool or other electronic device.
- Read every selected option: color or wavelength, package/base, supply, number of channels and pins, strip width, cable length, male/female orientation and pack count.
- Validate electrical fit: bare junction drive current versus regulated module input, DC strip voltage versus mains-rated fixture, polarity, current capacity and connector pinout.
- Check installation conditions: thermal management, mounting footprint, environmental sealing of the entire assembled system, and safe handling of mains, high-power IR and UV light.
- Verify what is included: a clip is not a strip, a pigtail is not a driver, a loose LED is not a bulb, and one connector half is not necessarily a complete mating pair.
Product-level specifications and the actual selected variant take precedence over general collection language. No performance, certification, waterproofing, fit or color-changing claim for one listing should be applied to every item here.
