2.54mm Dupont Jumper Wires, Housings & Terminals
2.54mm jumper wires, crimp housings and adapter leads
This collection centers on commonly marketed “Dupont” 2.54mm jumper-wire components for prototyping, test connections and low-voltage internal wiring. The current catalog includes single-contact and multi-position jumper leads, male and female crimp contacts, single- and double-row housings, connector kits, test leads, and adapter cables between 2.54mm contacts and several smaller wire-to-board connector families.
“Dupont” is used here as a generic marketplace description for this connector format. It does not establish manufacture by DuPont or compatibility with every branded 2.54mm connector system.
Core 2.54mm products
- Single-contact jumper wires: male-to-male, male-to-female and female-to-female options, commonly offered in 10cm, 20cm or 30cm lengths and in assorted colors.
- Multi-position jumper cables: grouped 2P–20P options, including selected 16P and 20P double-ended cables and 2P–10P female-to-female assemblies.
- Housings and crimp contacts: single-row and double-row plastic shells, loose male and female contacts, and mixed connector kits. Position counts and included quantities vary by listing.
- Locking 2.54mm products: MX2.54/TJC8-style housings, headers and wire assemblies with latch features. These are mechanically different from plain friction-fit 1P jumper shells.
- Test accessories: alligator-clip leads and test-hook leads terminating in male or female 2.54mm-style contacts.
- Panel and motherboard adapters: USB Type-A panel-mount leads and dual USB 2.0 rear-bracket cables for specific 5-pin or motherboard 9-pin header arrangements.
Small-pitch connector to 2.54mm adapter cables
Selected products adapt individual 2.54mm male or female contacts to SH 1.0mm, MX/GH 1.25mm, ZH 1.5mm, PA/PH/HY 2.0mm, KF2510, XH/XHB 2.54mm, VH 3.96mm and related housings. Common choices include 2–10 positions, 20cm or 30cm lengths, and 26AWG or 28AWG wire, depending on the listing.
The pitch and position count describe only part of the interface. Verify housing series, contact gender, latch, keying, pin order and wiring direction. An adapter cable does not convert voltage, logic level, protocol or pin function.
How to choose
- Identify both endpoints: record pitch, row count, number of contacts, mating gender, housing shape and keying.
- Choose contact format: a male pin fits a socket contact; “male” and “female” may refer to the metal contact rather than the outer plastic shell.
- Check circuit order: verify whether the cable is straight-through, reversed or individually separated. Never assume color order equals pin numbering.
- Select length and conductor: current listings include lengths from approximately 10cm to 50cm and product-level wire descriptions such as 24AWG, 26AWG or 28AWG.
- Confirm position count: options range from single-contact leads to multi-row housings and 20-position assemblies.
- Match the housing family: plain 2.54mm jumper shells, locking MX2.54 housings, motherboard USB headers and smaller-pitch JST-style families are not mechanically interchangeable.
- Check pack contents: listings range from individual assemblies and five- or ten-piece cable packs to 50-, 100-, 370-, 620- and 1000-piece component kits.
Important compatibility boundaries
A 2.54mm pitch alone does not guarantee mating compatibility. Pin dimensions, socket depth, plating, row spacing, polarization, latch geometry and current capacity may differ. Breadboards, development boards and modules also use different header genders and pin assignments.
Do not connect a cable based only on matching colors or position count. Verify voltage, ground, signal order and maximum current against the equipment documentation. These passive cables do not provide USB conversion, level shifting, isolation or overcurrent protection.
Mixed products in this collection
Two 2.0mm double-row housing/terminal kits and one 1.27mm 40-conductor IDC ribbon-cable product are mixed into the current collection. They are not 2.54mm Dupont components. JR/SM/SYP RC connector kits and broad mixed-terminal assortments also contain other connector families; use only the option that matches the required system.
The dual USB 2.0 motherboard cables use keyed or blocked 9-pin header arrangements and should not be treated as generic 2.54mm jumper wiring. Confirm the motherboard manual and missing-pin position before connection.
Ratings and materials
This collection spans finished cables, loose contacts, housings, USB adapters and test leads, so it does not share one universal 3A/250V rating, wire range, housing material, plating, temperature range, mating-cycle rating or certification. Use the specification of the exact product and variant.
Frequently asked questions
Are all 2.54mm connectors interchangeable?
No. Pitch is only one dimension. Check contact shape, housing geometry, row spacing, latch and pin assignment.
Which cable works with a breadboard?
Standard breadboards usually accept a compatible male pin. Choose the opposite end according to the board or module being connected.
Do adapter cables change voltage or protocol?
No. They are passive wiring assemblies unless a product explicitly contains conversion electronics.
Are the 2.0mm and 1.27mm products compatible with 2.54mm headers?
No. They use different pitches and must be treated as separate connector systems.
Can I use a motherboard USB header cable on any 9-pin header?
No. Confirm that the header is specifically wired for USB 2.0 and check its key position and pinout.
