ESD Protection Diodes, Arrays & Protected Modules

ESD protection components and modules

Explore discrete transient-voltage-suppression (TVS) and ESD protection diodes, multi-line arrays and communication modules that advertise built-in ESD protection. The collection spans very different devices: a packaged diode or array is a board-level protection component, while a USB-to-RS485 converter, CAN board, RS485 hub, wireless module or SDR assembly is a complete functional product with protection among its features. Do not use an entire module as a pin-compatible substitute for a protection diode.

Find the right part type

  • Low-capacitance signal-line devices: USBLC6-2, TPD1E/TPD2E/TPD4E, PESD and similar selections include single-line, two-line and multi-channel parts intended for particular data interfaces. Some listings mention USB-C, USB 2.0, CAN or antenna use. Match the actual channel count, capacitance and working-voltage range to the interface, not just the application named in the title.
  • TVS arrays and general suppressors: SMF05C, SR05, SLVU2.8, MMBZ20V, SMF13–17, SMBJ18A and SD05/SD12 choices vary in stand-off voltage, polarity, surge behavior and package. Some are bidirectional and others unidirectional. A seller's 'ESD' wording alone does not establish interchangeable protection performance.
  • Packages and quantities: SOT-23, SOT-23-6, SOT-563/666, SOD-323/523/923, DFN, X1-SON and SMB outlines occur in the assortment. Listings offer different model and 1-, 2-, 5-, 10-, 20-, 50-, 100- or larger-piece selections. A 'Color' option frequently means the electrical model or pack count, not the component's color.
  • Protected equipment: USB-to-RS485/422 converters, SN65HVD230 CAN boards, TXB0104 level-shifter boards, E810-R RS485 hubs, E22P wireless and SDR modules have their own operating voltage, protocol, interface and version choices. Their advertised ESD features are not a common standalone diode specification. Check the exact selected version and product documentation.

Engineering selection checklist

For discrete parts, verify reverse stand-off voltage, clamping voltage at specified current, dynamic behavior, polarity, capacitance, leakage, IEC test conditions where actually documented, number of protected lines, package footprint and the protected IC's absolute limits. For a module, compare its power supply, connector or terminal layout, communications protocol, isolation claims and documented port-protection tests. Avoid treating seller claims of originality, certification or a headline kV/W number as verified for every option.

Frequently asked questions

Is every product here a loose ESD diode? No. Several are complete converter, hub, CAN, wireless or SDR modules that mention ESD protection as a feature.

Can I choose a TVS diode only by the signal's nominal voltage? No. Working voltage, capacitance, clamping behavior, polarity, surge waveform and the protected device's limits all matter.

Do '5V' variants protect only 5V interfaces? The label is not enough to decide. Read the exact part's stand-off, breakdown and clamping specifications and application circuit.

Are all E810-R and USB-RS485 versions identical? No. Their variant labels identify different model or chipset versions; verify the selected unit's interfaces and protection documentation.
