This collection contains adapters for installing selected E26 or E27 Edison-screw lamps into fixtures originally fitted with G24, GX24Q or GX23 compact-fluorescent socket formats. Base name, pin count, keying and electrical configuration must all match. A converter changes the lamp interface, but it does not by itself make the replacement lamp compatible with the original ballast or supply.

2-Pin and 4-Pin Are Not Interchangeable

G24D is a 2-pin format, while G24Q and GX24Q are 4-pin formats. Pin count alone is not enough: keyed suffixes, base geometry and pin layout can differ. Do not force an adapter into a socket because the pins appear close to the correct spacing.

GX23 is also a separate keyed family. “G23,” “GX23,” “G24,” “G24D,” “G24Q” and “GX24Q” must not be treated as generic synonyms.

How to Select

1. Read the exact code moulded or printed on the existing lamp and socket.
2. Count the pins and confirm their layout.
3. Check the keyed suffix or subtype, not just the G24 or GX24 family name.
4. Confirm the conversion direction: pin-base socket to E26/E27 lamp, or the reverse.
5. Identify whether the original fixture contains a magnetic or electronic ballast.
6. Check the replacement lamp’s wiring diagram and ballast compatibility.
7. Verify supply voltage, lamp input voltage, dimensions, heat and enclosure clearance.
8. Have required fixture rewiring completed by a qualified electrician.

Ballast Bypass and Rewiring

Multiple 4-pin adapter listings explicitly state that the ballast must be removed or bypassed. Some 2-pin conversions can also require rewiring depending on the fixture and replacement lamp. Never assume an adapter can be inserted while leaving the original control gear connected.

There is no universal ballast-bypass wiring pattern. Ballast lead colors and circuit arrangements vary, and instructions copied from a marketplace listing may not match the installed fixture. Isolate power and follow the fixture, ballast and replacement-lamp manufacturers’ diagrams. Mains rewiring should be performed by a qualified electrician and may affect product certification.

Adapters Do Not Convert Electrical Requirements

These passive adapters normally do not convert voltage, frequency, current, dimming protocol or ballast output. An E26/E27 lamp must be suitable for the final wiring and supply. Physical fit does not establish electrical compatibility.

LED Retrofit Boundaries

An adapter can form part of a compact-fluorescent-to-LED retrofit, but suitability depends on whether the LED lamp is ballast-compatible or direct-wire, how the fixture is rewired, thermal conditions and local electrical rules. The adapter alone does not establish an approved retrofit system.

Do not infer compatibility with every G24D-1/-2/-3 or G24Q/GX24Q keyed subtype from a broad listing title. Compare the selected adapter’s keying and dimensions with the existing socket before purchase.

Materials, Ratings and Certifications

Some listings use terms such as PBT, “fireproof,” CE and RoHS. These claims are not consistent across all products and do not provide one collection-wide material, temperature, voltage, current or certification rating. The inspected catalog does not support the previous claims of universal +130°C thermoplastic, ceramic options, specified wattage bands or complete OEM holder coverage.
