IRF520 MOSFET Modules, TO-220 Devices and Kits
Compare IRF520-based MOSFET switching modules and selectable TO-220 transistor packs. Most dedicated IRF520 pages here describe an assembled PWM switch board for microcontroller projects, not a loose transistor. Other pages offer an IRF520 or IRF520N as one model choice among many; these part numbers and the assembled modules are different ordering choices. Check the actual selected option and pack count before purchase.
Module or discrete component?
- IRF520 switch modules: listings offer single boards or packs of 2, 5, 10 or 20 boards on various pages. They describe digital/PWM input, nominal 3.3 V/5 V controller interfaces and a 0–24 V DC-load range. These are seller descriptions for the assembled board, not verified continuous-load or logic-level performance guarantees. Check the exact board design, gate drive, connectors, thermal path and load limits before use. One module page calls it a “logic-level gate driver,” but that label alone does not establish full IRF520 enhancement at 3.3 V or 5 V. Several pages mention heatsinking above 1 A and a less-than-5 A headline; do not generalize either number to every board or operating condition.
- Discrete TO-220 MOSFETs: shared menus have “IRF520” and separate “IRF520N” selections in 10-piece pages, while other pages offer 1- or 5-piece IRF520N options. A shared title may say IRF520N but only expose IRF520 without the N suffix, or vice versa. Choose the full intended model and verify its datasheet, marking, leads and quantity.
- Multi-value kits: a 30-piece, 10-value TO-220 kit includes IRF520N as one named type, and some 50-piece assortments name IRF520N among other MOSFETs. These are not packs of 30 or 50 IRF520 devices. Verify each kit's per-model contents; other single-model selector pages are not automatically mixed kits.
Shared-page exceptions
Other selectable models include IRF510, IRF530, IRF540, IRF3205 and IRF630 families, as well as P-channel IRF9520N, IRF9530N and IRF9540N. LM317T is an adjustable voltage regulator; 13009-series parts are bipolar transistors; BTA24 and BTB16 are triacs. None should be treated as an IRF520 substitution based on a shared package or title. One module listing's “package included” text unexpectedly names a TXS0108E level-conversion module rather than the IRF520 board in its title: confirm the actual included item before ordering. Another multi-model page labels condition “Used,” so do not assume all shared-page variants are new.
Selection checklist
- Identify whether the purchasable option is an assembled module, a discrete IRF520/IRF520N TO-220 part, or a mixed kit. Confirm the chosen model and actual count.
- For a discrete part, check its manufacturer's datasheet for drain-source rating, on-resistance at the available gate-source drive, gate charge, safe operating area and thermal limits. Gate-threshold voltage is not a guarantee of low-resistance operation at 3.3 V or 5 V.
- For modules, compare control-interface requirements and board-level thermal/load ratings with the particular listing and your application. Do not extrapolate the transistor's current rating to connectors, copper traces or heatsink-less operation.
- Resolve any contradictory component identity, package-included text, condition or quantity with the seller before selecting a variant.
Frequently asked questions
Will an IRF520 module order give me loose TO-220 transistors?
No. Listings identified as modules refer to assembled boards. Select a discrete IRF520 or IRF520N model option if you need a loose component.
Are IRF520 and IRF520N interchangeable?
Do not assume so from a shared title. Compare full manufacturer datasheets, package, pinout and gate-drive specifications for the exact ordering codes.
Can a 3.3 V GPIO always drive an IRF520 module at its headline current?
No. The module's gate-drive design and thermal limits matter. Verify full enhancement, board ratings and the actual load conditions; a 3.3 V input claim alone is not a current guarantee.
Does a ten-model title mean ten different components arrive?
Usually not when the page has a model selector. A dedicated assortment kit is different; inspect the kit breakdown and selected quantity.
