Piranha Superflux LEDs and COB LED light sources

This collection contains two distinct LED component formats: 3mm and 5mm four-lead Piranha/Superflux indicator LEDs, plus chip-on-board (COB) LED modules offered in multiple wattages, board sizes and white color temperatures. It does not currently contain 0402, 0603, 0805 or 1206 SMD LEDs, panel holders or LED light bars.

What is in this collection?

• 5mm Piranha/Superflux LEDs: four-lead packages in red, green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, cold white and warm white options, depending on the listing. Pack quantities include 50, 100, 200 or 500 pieces.
• 3mm Piranha LEDs: selected listings include F3 3mm variants alongside F5 5mm variants. Confirm the package dimension in the chosen option.
• Four-chip 5mm LEDs: selected 80mA listings describe four-chip Piranha or “eagle-eye” packages in several colors.
• COB LED modules: 10-piece options from 3W to 36W, with board labels including 13-11mm, 20-11mm, 28-20mm and 19-17mm. Available white choices include warm white 3000K, neutral white 4000K and cold white 6000K.

Piranha LED vs COB LED

Piranha LEDs are discrete four-lead indicator components designed for through-hole PCB assembly. Their broad package support and multiple leads distinguish them from standard two-lead round LEDs, but the exact internal lead arrangement and polarity must be checked on the selected product.

COB modules mount multiple LED dies on one substrate to create a concentrated light source. They require a compatible constant-current driver and appropriate thermal management. They are not direct replacements for discrete Piranha indicators and should not be connected directly to mains power.

How to select a Piranha or Superflux LED

1. Choose package size: verify F3 3mm or F5 5mm rather than relying on the product image.
2. Select emitted color: red, green, blue, yellow, amber/orange, pink and white options do not share one forward-voltage specification.
3. Check current: the catalog includes products described as 20mA and others described as 80mA four-chip LEDs. Do not substitute one rating for the other.
4. Confirm brightness and lens: intensity values appear on certain variants only. Color, lens appearance and package size alone do not establish luminous intensity or viewing angle.
5. Verify lead configuration: consult the selected listing or test the component before PCB production. Four leads do not guarantee an identical internal circuit across every product.
6. Order the correct quantity: pack size varies by listing and option.

How to select a COB LED module

1. Match rated power: choose from the listed 3W, 5W, 7W, 10W, 12W, 15W, 18W, 30W or 36W options.
2. Match substrate dimensions: labels such as 13-11mm or 28-20mm identify physical size options; verify mounting dimensions on the product page.
3. Choose color temperature: current options are approximately 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white and 6000K cold white.
4. Size the driver correctly: wattage alone does not define operating voltage or current. Use the electrical values stated for the exact module.
5. Provide heat dissipation: use a suitable heatsink, mounting method and thermal interface for the selected power level.

Compatibility and safety boundaries

LED color, package name and nominal wattage do not prove electrical interchangeability. Confirm forward voltage, drive current, polarity, dimensions and thermal requirements before installation. A current-limiting resistor may be suitable for a discrete indicator circuit when correctly calculated, while COB modules generally require a matched constant-current driver.

No universal CE, RoHS, operating-temperature, viewing-angle or brightness claim is applied to this collection. Any certification or performance figure must be verified on the individual product.

Typical applications

Piranha/Superflux LEDs are commonly selected for PCB indicators, signs, display assemblies and automotive-style lighting projects where their product-level specifications are suitable. COB modules are intended for compatible spotlights, downlights and DIY luminaires with a correctly matched driver and heatsink.

Are these standard two-lead 5mm LEDs?

No. The current discrete LED products are primarily four-lead Piranha/Superflux packages.

Does this collection include surface-mount 0402 to 1206 LEDs?

No. Those package sizes are not represented by the five current products.

Can every Piranha LED run at 80mA?

No. Some listings describe 20mA products and others 80mA four-chip products. Follow the selected variant’s specification.

Can a COB module connect directly to AC mains?

No. Use a compatible LED driver and observe the module’s product-level voltage, current and insulation requirements.

Are COB wattages physically interchangeable?

Not necessarily. Power, board dimensions, operating values and cooling needs vary among options.
