LM741 and UA741 Single Op Amp ICs and Kits

LM741 and UA741 single operational amplifiers

Browse classic 741-family single-channel operational-amplifier ICs in DIP-8, surface-mount eight-pin and round metal-can packages, alongside assorted analog-chip kits and a finished guitar effects pedal whose title references LM741. Some multi-model product pages also offer flash memory, power drivers, transistors or timers instead of a 741. Select the exact variant and pack count: the number 741 in a long product headline does not establish what that variant ships.

Know the device before selecting a replacement

A bare LM741CN, UA741CN or UA741CP DIP-8 is one operational amplifier per physical package. LM741CM, LM741CMX and UA741CDT listings identify surface-mount eight-pin options; LM741H/LM741AH/LM741CH products describe round metal-can styles that require their own mounting and pin orientation. Manufacturer and full suffix matter, including operating grade, package, supply limits and specification revision. A 741-family IC is a historically important general-purpose device, useful for appropriate legacy repairs and analog teaching, but “high precision” in a sales title is not an application-level accuracy guarantee. Check the actual datasheet, circuit conditions and marking rather than attributing one seller's figures to the whole series.

741 operating constraints that matter in real circuits

The traditional bipolar 741 architecture is commonly used with suitable positive and negative supply rails and sufficient input/output voltage headroom; it is not inherently a modern low-voltage, rail-to-rail, single-supply op amp. Do not assume that it works at 1–2 V simply because one product title mentions “1-2VDC Power Relay,” or that a generic voltage field on an assortment applies to it. Determine the selected chip's recommended supply and absolute maximum ratings, input common-mode range, differential input limits, input offset and offset adjustment requirements, bias and offset currents, output swing at the specified load, open-loop gain, common-mode rejection, gain-bandwidth product, slew rate, noise, thermal limits and stability. Calculate resistor-network and source-impedance errors in a real circuit. Validate at the actual ambient temperature, rails, gain, feedback network, signal level and load instead of relying on “741 compatible” wording.

Package and pinout checks

DIP-8 ICs belong in an appropriate through-hole socket or footprint. SOP/SOIC-8 options require a different surface-mount PCB footprint or an explicitly supplied adapter. A metal-can eight-lead LM741H variant uses another mechanical form factor, orientation convention and lead arrangement: never force it into a DIP socket based solely on an eight-pin count. Confirm pin 1, supply pins, input polarity, output and offset-null connections against the exact manufacturer's datasheet and existing schematic. Pin-count agreement is not electrical interchangeability. If a replacement design uses an alternative single amplifier such as OP777, LM10, LM709, LM4250, TL081, LM6172 or LM7171, compare bandwidth, compensation and stability requirements as well as package and supply behavior rather than treating it as a drop-in 741.

Single versus dual versus quad, and completed products

LM741/UA741 are single amplifiers. LM358, LM833, LMC662 and LMC6482 listings include dual-device options; LM324 is a quad device. A JRC4558, LM1458 or LM4562 selection is not simply a faster 741 in an identical package. Some listings call a MOSKY LM741 guitar distortion/overdrive pedal an “LM741 preamp”: the selectable product is a complete musical effect pedal with its own input/output and power needs, not loose integrated circuits or a circuit-level compatibility test. Do not translate seller sound-quality or originality phrases into guaranteed performance. Likewise an 85-piece or 90-piece analog kit may contain only a few UA741 packages among timers, comparators, driver arrays, optocouplers and other ICs. Verify the individual contents and quantities.

Read multi-model variants literally

Several product pages use a long sequence of searchable model numbers but sell one selected item. Choosing “LM741CM SOP-8” is different from choosing W25Q64 or N25Q064 flash, 24LC64 serial memory, IR2103 or TPS2814 gate drivers, MAX232CPE interface IC, TOP210/TOP258 power controllers, LM78L12/LM78L05 regulators, LM75 sensor, 2N7000 MOSFET, 2N2907 transistor, SF16 diode, SN74HC logic, ATTINY10 microcontroller or STM32F103 MCU. Other menus pair 741 with ALC887 audio codec, CAT28C16 EEPROM, RK2918 processor, motor drivers, display interface chips or power transistors. Such variants have their own footprints and technical documentation; they are not supplied as a mixed bag unless the specific listing says so. Quantity prefixes such as 1PCS, 3PCS, 5PCS, 10PCS, 15PCS, 20PCS, 50PCS, 100PCS and 200PCS apply to the selected model, not automatically to every model in the heading.

Separating analog device classes in assortments

LM393, LM339, LM2901 and LM2903 are comparators, not linear-feedback LM741 op amps. NE555 and LMC555 are timers; LM567 is a tone decoder; LM1881 is a video sync separator. LM386, LM380, TDA2030 and TDA2822 are audio power-amplifier-related devices that serve a different circuit role. PC817 is an optocoupler; ULN2003/ULN2803 are driver arrays; TL494 and UC3842-family devices are power controllers. OP07 and other precision amplifiers differ in required supply and performance even if both are single amplifiers. For a 45-, 60-, 75-, 85- or 90-piece set, use the stated per-type bill of materials and do not count the set total as 741 inventory. Listing categories such as “voltage regulator,” “drive IC” or “logic IC” can be generic or incorrect; inspect the selected device's actual datasheet.

Selection and repair checklist

  1. Identify the required physical item: loose single op amp, multi-type kit or complete guitar pedal. Choose the 741 option deliberately on a multi-model product page.
  2. Match the complete manufacturer number and marking: LM741CN, UA741CN, UA741CP, LM741CM/CMX, UA741CDT or LM741H/CH/AH are not just cosmetic labels.
  3. Verify DIP-8, SOP/SOIC-8 or metal-can footprint, pin orientation and installation clearance. A board-level adapter is not included unless the selected offer explicitly includes it.
  4. Measure available positive and negative rails, common-mode input and required output swing; compare them to the chosen device datasheet and actual load.
  5. Budget offset, bias-current error, noise, bandwidth, slew rate and temperature drift. Check offset-null circuitry and feedback compensation as relevant to the original design.
  6. Confirm pack count and the per-part distribution of mixed kits. For production repairs, request credible traceability and incoming inspection rather than accepting “original,” “imported” or “gold plated” claims as certification.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 741 suitable for a 5 V single-supply sensor circuit? Do not assume so. Check the exact part's rail and common-mode limits; many classic 741 applications require more headroom and suitable dual rails.

Are LM741CN and LM741CM mechanically interchangeable? No. The listings identify DIP-8 and surface-mount eight-pin formats; confirm the footprint and any adapter.

Is LM741H a DIP-8 IC? No. H/CH/AH listings here describe metal-can parts, for which the physical form and lead orientation must be checked independently.

Does a multi-model page ship every part in its title? No. Select the LM741 or UA741 variant and verify its quantity; other choices can be memory chips, drivers or transistors.

Does “high precision” guarantee accurate measurements? No. Offset, drift, bias and circuit design determine accuracy at the actual operating point.

Is the guitar pedal an LM741 IC pack? No. It is a finished effects device and must be evaluated as such.

Can a comparator or dual/quad op amp replace a 741 in an eight-pin socket? Not just on the basis of package or amplifier terminology. Compare function, channel count, pinout, supplies and feedback behavior.

Yoeruyo presents these 741-related listings without changing product membership. The selected device's current documentation and your host circuit remain the authority for compatibility.
