Logic ICs, 74 Series Gates, CMOS Kits and Boards
Logic ICs, digital building blocks and related development hardware
Explore individual logic chips, 74-series and CD4000-series assortments, programmable logic devices and related boards. This is a broad, mixed catalog rather than a single interchangeable logic family: listings include gates, buffers, bus transceivers, counters, flip-flops, shift registers, multiplexers, analog switches, level-shifting modules and selected development tools. Some products classified into this collection are not logic ICs at all. Match the selected model, package and quantity to your circuit before ordering.
Find the right function, not just a familiar number
- Boolean gates and inverters: 74HC00/74LS00 and CD4011 are NAND examples; 74HC02/74LS02 and CD4001 are NOR; 74HC08/74LS08 and CD4081 are AND; 74HC32/74LS32 and CD4071 are OR; 74HC04 and CD4069 are inverters. The suffix and family matter as much as the logic function. A CD4001 listing's wording may conflict about the number of inputs: verify the precise device datasheet and chosen item, rather than treating a seller headline as a pinout.
- Schmitt-trigger inputs: 74HC14, 74LVC14, CD40106 and CD4093 appear in the range. A Schmitt input provides hysteresis for appropriately specified signals; the 4093 is a NAND-function device, not a pin-compatible substitute for a hex inverter. Check threshold levels, inversion and pinout for your supply voltage.
- Registers and sequential logic: 74HC74 and CD4013 are D-type flip-flop examples; 74HC164/165/595 and 74HCT595 are shift-register options. The 74HC595 is commonly used for serial-to-parallel expansion with output storage, while 74HC165 is used for parallel-to-serial input capture. They are not equivalent to one another. CD4017, CD4026, CD4040, 74HC393 and other counters differ in decoded outputs, clocking and reset behavior.
- Buffers, latches and bus interfaces: 74HC125, AHCT125, HC541, HC245, LS245, HCT245, 74HC573 and 74HC374 address different buffering, transceiver, latch and register roles. Verify output-enable polarity, directional-control pins, drive capability and whether the part is a latch or an edge-triggered register. A transceiver is not automatically a safe voltage-level translator.
- Decoders, multiplexers and switches: 74HC138/139/238, 74HC157/257, CD4051/4052/4053 and CD4066 cover distinct selection, decoding and analog-switching functions. A CD4051 analog mux is not the same component as a 74HC157 digital multiplexer. Check signal range relative to the device rails, on-resistance, enable polarity and address inputs where relevant.
- Other functions: Listings also include 74HC283 adders, CD4046 phase-locked-loop devices, CD4047 multivibrators, GAL16V8 programmable logic and EPM-series logic parts. Confirm programming method, speed grade and exact ordering suffix for programmable devices; do not assume they arrive programmed.
Understand the logic family and electrical interface
74HC, 74HCT, 74AHCT, 74LS, 74LVC and CD4000/HEF/HCF are not one voltage specification. HC and HCT may share a logic function but can differ in input thresholds; LS is a TTL-family part; LVC is a different low-voltage logic family. CD4000 variants may also have substantially different recommended operating ranges from 74-series parts. Read the manufacturer datasheet for the exact device and suffix at your chosen supply: recommended VCC, absolute maximum ratings, VIH/VIL, VOH/VOL under load, output current, propagation delay and input/output tolerance must all work together. Do not infer 5 V tolerance, 3.3 V compatibility, rail-to-rail output swing or hot-swap capability from a family nickname. Where a 3.3 V controller must drive a 5 V system, choose a suitable interface only after checking both sides' threshold and voltage limits; the four-channel MOSFET level-converter listing is a separate module, not an included feature of the ICs.
Package labels matter too: DIP/PDIP through-hole parts differ from SOP/SOIC, TSSOP, SC70, SOT-23 and QFN surface-mount parts. Match the complete suffix, pin count, lead spacing, land pattern and orientation to your PCB or socket. A 74HC595N through-hole part and 74HC595D surface-mount part should not be selected by the common '595' digits alone. Some product headlines and seller fields conflict about package or device class, so use the actual selected option, product photographs where informative and the exact part documentation to resolve uncertainty. A quoted 'international standard' is not a usable electrical rating.
Single devices versus assortments
Many listings have a model selector misleadingly labeled Color; it can select a single device such as 74HC00D, 74HC595D or CD4051 rather than a multitype assortment. Quantity selectors such as 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 or 500 pieces describe a lot size, not necessarily different functions. Other listings really are kits: examples include a 30-type/30-piece CD4000 DIP assortment (one of each listed type), an 80-piece 74HC SMD set advertised as eight types at ten pieces each, and a 74HC kit offering either 30 types/30 pieces in a box or five types/50 pieces without a box. Those options are materially different purchases. A seller's 80-piece kit text also appears to repeat 74HC04 where 74HC14 is expected; verify the exact packing list for that item before relying on every part number. Listings with a long string of model numbers may simply offer one selectable model per order. An assortment containing sockets or adapters should not be interpreted as that many active ICs.
Boards, peripheral ICs and mixed-category products
The collection also carries ESP32-C3 and ESP32-S3 development boards, a Basys 3 FPGA board with a board/shell option, and a four-channel bidirectional level-converter module. These are assembled hardware, not DIP logic-gate chips; check board revision, headers, programming interface, installed device and included enclosure at the individual listing. A bare programmable logic IC such as GAL16V8 or an EPM-series device is not equivalent to a complete FPGA development board.
Other items found here span op amps (TL072/TL074/TL081/TL084, LM358 and others), comparators, optocouplers and gate drivers, NE555 timers, microcontrollers, flash memory, power-management and charging ICs, LED pixels, interface controllers, MOSFETs, sockets, test clips, displays and even non-electronic accessories or fee listings. Their presence reflects the current collection contents, not a claim that they are digital logic chips or interchangeable with any 74-series device. Check each individual product page before purchase. SK6812/WS2812-style LED pixels, for example, are addressable light sources with their own selected color, package and quantity options, not stand-alone Boolean-gate ICs. No accessory, programmer, socket, PCB or enclosure is included with a bare chip unless that specific selected listing says so.
A practical selection checklist
- Start with the needed function: gate truth table and number of inputs, register/counter timing, bus direction or analog signal switching. Confirm active-high versus active-low controls.
- Identify the exact ordered part number, family, suffix, package and pin count from the selected variant. Do not treat a mixed-model product title as the contents of a single pack.
- Check operating supply, logic thresholds, allowable input voltage and output load using the exact part's datasheet. Budget for propagation delay, clock edge and setup/hold requirements in timed circuits.
- For replacement work, compare pinout, functional behavior, output structure (including open-collector/open-drain or three-state outputs), enable/reset polarity and package footprint. Similar numbering alone does not establish drop-in compatibility.
- Finally check the lot quantity, assortment contents, condition claims and accessories on the specific listing. Seller descriptions such as 'original', 'new' or broad performance claims are not independent authentication, testing or certification.
Frequently asked questions
Can I replace a 74LS chip with a 74HC or 74HCT version?
Not automatically. Compare supply range, input thresholds, output drive, loading, timing, unused-input handling, output type and pinout against the exact circuit and manufacturer datasheets. HCT-family thresholds may be relevant to TTL-level interfaces, but the family name alone does not guarantee a suitable replacement.
Does the model list in a title mean I receive every listed chip?
Usually not. Many of these listings use a model choice under a field called 'Color'. Buy the selected variant and stated quantity. Only listings expressly sold as an assortment describe a multi-model kit, and even those can have several different kit options.
Are all the parts in this collection 5 V DIP logic ICs?
No. There are different logic families, voltages and through-hole or surface-mount footprints, plus boards and non-logic items. Check the exact device and selected variant before designing a PCB or choosing a socket.
Is a 74HC245 a bidirectional 3.3 V-to-5 V converter?
It is a bus transceiver whose specified supply and input/output limits govern use. Bidirectional data flow does not itself mean automatic voltage translation. For mixed-voltage systems, confirm the complete electrical interface or choose an appropriately specified level-shifting device or module.
Does a 74HC595 listing include a programmer or development board?
A bare 74HC595 listing is an IC lot, not an assembled development board. Verify separately whether the exact product includes a socket, board or other accessory; the family shares this collection with kits and unrelated boards.
