Logic ICs, 74-Series Gates and CMOS Assortment Kits
Choose logic ICs by function, family and actual pack contents
This collection brings together individual 74-series and 4000-series logic ICs, through-hole and surface-mount assortments, a programmable-logic development board and a few neighboring components. It is not a single matched kit and its listings do not share a universal supply voltage, pinout or package. Start with the precise function your circuit needs, then inspect the chosen product option and manufacturer's datasheet. The same headline can describe several different selectable chips; the selected option, not the full string of model numbers in the title, identifies what you order.
What you can find here
- Basic gates: examples include 74HC00/74LS00 and CD4011 NAND, 74HC02/74LS02 and CD4001 NOR, 74HC08/74LS08 AND, 74HC04/74LS04 and CD4069 inverters. 74HC14 and CD4093 add Schmitt-trigger input behavior but implement different functions: a hex inverting trigger is not a quad NAND trigger.
- Sequential logic: CD4013, 74HC74 and 74LVC74 are D-type flip-flop options; 74HC164, 74HC165, 74HC595 and HEF4094 are different shift-register and storage functions. CD4040, CD4060, 74HC393, HEF4518 and HEF4520 are not interchangeable counter types. Compare clock edge, reset polarity, decoded versus binary outputs and timing.
- Bus and selection functions: 74HC125/126, SN74AHCT125, 74HC541, 74HC245, 74HCT245 and 74LS245 cover buffer, three-state and transceiver roles; 74HC138/139/238 and 74LVC157 serve decoding or multiplexing tasks. Match enable polarity, direction control, output drive and exact pinout. A bidirectional transceiver does not automatically translate between 3.3 V and 5 V.
- 4000-series devices: CD/HEF/HCF listings include CD4001, CD4011, CD4013, CD4066 bilateral switches, CD4069 inverters, CD4093 Schmitt NAND devices and HEF4081/4094/4518/4520/4528/4538 options. Analog switches, monostable multivibrators, counters and logic gates perform different jobs even when cataloged under CMOS logic.
Electrical compatibility is a part-number decision
74HC, 74HCT, 74AHCT, 74LS, 74LVC and CD4000/HEF/HCF are separate device families. Do not assume one family's VCC range, VIH/VIL thresholds, VOH/VOL at load, current capability, input tolerance, propagation delay or temperature grade applies to another. An 'Arduino compatible' seller phrase does not establish that a particular output safely interfaces with every microcontroller board. For mixed-voltage systems, check both sides' logic thresholds and maximum pin voltage at the actual rails, then use an appropriately rated interface if necessary. Observe recommended operating conditions rather than designing to absolute maximum ratings. For clocked parts verify setup and hold time, clock-edge sense, reset/enable timing and supply decoupling in the relevant datasheet. Open-drain or open-collector outputs require a compatible pull-up design; three-state outputs have enable conditions and cannot be treated as ordinary always-driven outputs.
Confirm the exact suffix and package footprint. DIP/PDIP parts suit through-hole sockets of the appropriate pin count and spacing; SOP/SOIC and TSSOP parts need matching SMT footprints. A CD4013 in SOIC-14 or TSSOP-14 is not mechanically equivalent to a DIP-14 version. The 74HC logic gate options offered as 'Color' include individual one-piece SOIC selections, while other listings offer 10- or 50-piece lots of one selected model. Seller fields such as 'standard' or 'international standard' provide no numeric supply or operating-temperature specification. Claims of originality, testing, certification or warranty in imported descriptions are not independently established by this collection text.
Read assortment quantities carefully
Several offerings are genuinely mixed kits, but their recipes differ. One CD40XX kit explicitly lists 30 different DIP types, one piece each, in a box; a 12-type 4000-series kit lists five pieces of each type, 60 chips total. A 30-piece 74HC DIP set lists one of each of 30 device types; a separate listing offers either 30 types/30 pieces boxed or five gate types/50 pieces unboxed. Other HC/LS sets offer 50 pieces of five chosen functions, ten per function, with 74HC and 74LS as separate options. An 80-piece SMD 74HC listing describes eight functions at ten pieces each, but its detailed text repeats 74HC04 where the headline names 74HC14, so confirm the packing list for that particular item rather than assuming every printed model is present. Some 4000-series assortment listings show generic package descriptions and inconsistent quantity or package claims; verify the specific item's contents instead of inferring all devices are DIP-14.
Two mixed-kit menus also contain socket-only options and ranges covering timers, amplifiers or optocouplers. Selecting '100pcs IC Sockets' or '115pcs IC Sockets' is not buying 100 or 115 logic ICs. A multi-model title with '2pcs/5pcs' or '10PCS/50PCS' choices typically represents one model and one lot quantity, not every model named in the headline. Count active chips separately from sockets and boards; consult the selected variant and listing packing details if the assortment is unclear.
Boards and adjacent parts are different products
The Basys 3 Artix-7 FPGA development-board listing offers 'Board only' and 'Board with shell'. It is an assembled programmable-logic development tool, not a bag of 74-series gates or a bare FPGA. A TLP250H optocoupler output-driver listing is an optocoupler/driver product, not a conventional Boolean gate. TL072, TL074, TL081 and TL084 options are analog operational amplifiers even though the seller labels the listing 'Logic IC'; their DIP-8 and DIP-14 alternatives have different channel counts and pinouts. Assortment menus may also contain analog, timer and socket-only options. Their presence here does not make them pin-compatible with logic devices or imply they ship with a logic kit. No board, programmer, power supply or accessory is included with an individual chip unless its selected listing explicitly says so.
Selection checklist for prototyping and repair
- Function: identify truth table, gate count and inputs per gate, edge-sensitive or transparent behavior, output-enable polarity and needed bus direction. A 74HC238 decoder and a 74HC138 decoder should be compared for output polarity rather than assumed equivalent.
- Exact part: read family letters, numeric function, manufacturer suffix, logic-symbol orientation, marking and ordering option. Check whether the 'Color' selector actually means a chip model or a kit type.
- Electrical limits: compare operating VCC, input thresholds and maximum inputs, output load, timing and temperature for the exact manufacturer's part. Never translate 'low power' or 'standard' into a guaranteed numeric rating.
- Physical fit: match pin count, DIP versus SOIC/TSSOP, body and lead spacing, land pattern and pin-one orientation. A nominal SOIC-14 gate is not a drop-in replacement for its DIP-14 cousin.
- Purchase contents: check pieces per model, boxed versus unboxed format, whether the option is ICs or sockets, and whether the listing describes an assembled board. Where the title and body disagree, resolve that uncertainty before relying on the part list.
Frequently asked questions
Are 74HC, 74HCT, 74AHCT, 74LS and 74LVC interchangeable?
No blanket substitution is safe. Some share nominal logic functions but differ in thresholds, voltage limits, drive, speed and output characteristics. Verify the specific circuit's requirements and the full ordered part datasheets.
Does a title listing ten model numbers mean the pack contains all ten?
Not necessarily. Many products offer a single selected model with a separate quantity selector. A genuine assortment explicitly states its component recipe; use that recipe and the selected kit option, not a list of search keywords.
Does the FPGA board listing contain loose logic ICs?
No. The board listing is an assembled development tool with board-only and board-with-shell options. It should not be confused with bare IC assortments.
Can I use the 74HC245 or 74LS245 to connect any 3.3 V and 5 V devices?
Not on the basis of 'bidirectional' alone. That describes controlled data flow, not automatic level conversion. Check supply, input thresholds, maximum input voltage and output levels for both sides or select a properly specified translator.
Is every product here a digital logic chip?
No. The current range includes an optocoupler driver, analog op amp options, sockets and an FPGA board alongside gate ICs and kits. Verify the actual selected item and intended circuit role before ordering.
