Monostable Timer ICs, Triggered Relay Modules and Kits

Monostable timers and triggered delay modules: buy the operating mode you need

A monostable circuit has one stable resting state. A qualifying trigger starts a temporary output interval, after which the circuit returns to rest. Browse loose 555-family timing ICs, selected monostable or delay-relay modules, sockets and mixed electronic-component kits here. This is a mixed collection: many products are not assembled monostable circuits. Other listings contain square-wave boards, unrelated logic parts or selectable non-555 ICs. Identify the actual purchase by its chosen variant and full product description, not by the collection name or keywords in a multi-model title.

One-shot timing versus other modes

  • Monostable / one-shot: an edge or level, as specified for the particular design, initiates one timed event. Confirm input polarity, trigger threshold, output polarity, retrigger behavior and reset method before integrating a board. Different devices behave differently during a second trigger.
  • Astable: a correctly configured oscillator repeatedly switches output states without needing a new trigger for each pulse. Bare 555 ICs can be used to design either mode, but a purchased chip by itself is neither a wired one-shot nor a wired oscillator.
  • Delay-on / delay-off relay: the label describes when a relay operates relative to power or a trigger, not necessarily the waveform at a timer IC's output. A power-on delay board, trigger-to-timeout relay board and delayed-disconnect board can have opposite contact sequences. Check the exact selected voltage option and the product's event sequence.
  • 74HC123D logic choice: one mixed 74HC-series listing offers 74HC123D, a dual monostable logic IC, alongside 74HC125D/126D buffers, 74HC132D Schmitt-trigger NAND gates and 74HC138D/139D decoders. Selecting another option does not deliver a monostable IC; check the actual marking, package and pack size.

Product forms represented in this collection

  • NE555 and related loose ICs: NE555P/NE555N DIP-8 and NE555D/DR SOP-8 options occur across single-model and multi-model listings. A loose IC needs a correctly designed external circuit, supply and timing components. Through-hole DIP-8 and surface-mount SOP-8 are not physically interchangeable footprints. Other listed choices such as NA555DR, SA555DR, SE555DR and NE555PSR should be evaluated individually, not assumed to share every electrical limit.
  • DW44 falling-edge trigger module: offered in 1-, 5- and 10-piece options, with a product title describing a monostable delay switch. The listing does not establish a detailed supply range, pulse length, load rating or complete trigger interface; verify those before use rather than transferring values from a different delay board.
  • Triggered relay timer options: some listings offer distinct DC 3 V, 5 V, 12 V and 24 V versions with selectable 10-second, 60-second or 10-minute range classes. Their descriptions specify approximate adjustable windows of 0.1–10 s, 1–60 s and 1–10 min respectively. For those particular listings, a trigger energizes the relay for the set time and it then releases; a second trigger during an active interval is described as ineffective. These are listing-specific behaviors, not universal specifications for all relay modules here.
  • Power-on delay and disconnect boards: DK555 5 V/12 V versions are described as delaying relay pull-in by an adjustable roughly 1–10 seconds after power is applied, then retaining the state while powered. Another listing distinguishes 5 V delay-conduction from 12 V delay-disconnect selections; still others offer 5 V/12 V/24 V boards with 0–5 s, 0–60 s or 0–240 s option labels. Confirm the exact board and whether it responds to a separate trigger or to power application. Never infer the contact behavior from a shared product title.
  • Other boards and kits: NE555+CD4017 running-light teaching kits need assembly and include a counter; SG11A02 square-wave boards and other adjustable generator boards are intended for repetitive signals, not automatically one-shot operation. A three-board signal-generator listing has separate H 50Hz–6kHz and L 0.8Hz–60Hz selections. Mixed DIP/SOP IC assortments may include an NE555 among many unrelated components, while other product listings offer only one model per selected variant. One title that lists NE555 currently has ULN2003AN-10PCS as its sole selectable option.

Timing and interface checks for engineering projects

In a conventional 555 monostable design, the trigger initiates a capacitor charge interval and the threshold terminates it. The widely used idealized estimate t ≈ 1.1RC applies to that particular 555 resistor-capacitor topology, not every timer module or relay board. Actual timing depends on the selected IC, component tolerances, capacitor leakage, supply behavior, trigger conditioning and board implementation; long delays are especially sensitive to leakage and noise. Do not substitute the option label “10S” for a guaranteed measured 10.000-second pulse. Where a listing supplies only a range, use that range as the selection cue and check required accuracy separately.

Distinguish the timer's logic output from a relay's NO/COM/NC contacts. The relay coil supply is not itself a contact rating, and a 5 V control board does not necessarily switch a 5 V load only. Conversely, an unverified relay or board must not be assumed safe for mains or a high-current motor because a seller's generic description mentions such a use. Confirm the selected board's contact, isolation, enclosure and application requirements with appropriate qualified engineering review. A generic “certification: none” or voltage classification in listing text is not evidence of a product certification.

How to select the right option

  1. Choose a function: single triggered pulse, trigger-controlled relay interval, delay after power-on, delayed shutoff, or continuous square-wave generation. These are different behaviors.
  2. Choose what ships: an individual DIP or SOP IC, an IC-plus-socket set, a bare socket, an assembled module, an unassembled teaching kit or a mixed chip box. A 20-piece label in one listing may refer to 10 chips plus 10 sockets rather than 20 timer ICs.
  3. Match the variant: read the selected voltage, timing-range label, chip model, package and piece count together. A multi-model title naming NE555 does not override a variant specifying LM358, UC3842, 74HC125D or ULN2003AN.
  4. Verify trigger and output details: rising versus falling edge, retriggerable versus non-retriggerable response, delay-on versus delay-off, supply limits, voltage levels, contact ratings and minimum/maximum usable time must come from the exact selected device or board documentation.
  5. Check mechanical integration: board dimensions, connector arrangement and DIP-8 versus SOP-8 footprint must suit your assembly. Do not assume a board identified as “for Arduino” plugs directly into a specific controller or tolerates its signal voltage.

Frequently asked questions

Does a bare NE555 include the resistor and capacitor for a one-shot? No. The IC needs a suitable external circuit. A chip-and-socket set adds a socket, not an automatically functioning timer board.

Do all relay boards retrigger if a second pulse arrives? No. The DC 3/5/12/24 V triggered module descriptions specifically say triggers during the active delay do not change its timing. Other modules require separate documentation.

Is a 74HC123D the same as an NE555? No. It is a different dual monostable logic device; package, triggering and operating conditions require its own design checks. Its neighboring options in the same listing are different logic functions.

Can I infer accuracy or original manufacturer from the listing title? No. Terms such as “original,” “precision,” or a model-family reference in a marketplace title are not verification of provenance, calibration, certifications or guaranteed performance. Check the selected part's authoritative specifications and the actual included items.
