NOR Flash Memory ICs, Modules and Programmers

NOR flash memory ICs, SPI modules and programming accessories

Choose nonvolatile NOR storage by the exact part number and selected option, not by a shared keyword. This collection includes serial SPI NOR chips and breakout modules, older parallel NOR components, high-density and low-voltage parts, compatible programming equipment, adapter sockets and clips. It also includes development boards containing flash, plus some NAND memory, eMMC, SSD, microcontroller, digital NOR-gate and unrelated items. A listing's presence does not establish that it contains a loose NOR IC. Consult its variant, package and datasheet before ordering.

SPI NOR: device, density and voltage

Common serial families in these listings include W25Q16/32/64/128/256/512 and W25R, W25X, N25Q/MT25Q, MX25L/MX25V, IS25LP, AT25DF, M25P and AT45DB. The part-family name alone cannot define the supply, bus mode, timing, erase geometry or footprint. Several W25Q32/W25Q64/W25Q128 module listings expose different capacities as variants. A 32 Mbit chip has 4 MB of nominal binary storage, 64 Mbit has 8 MB, and 128 Mbit has 16 MB; Gb is gigabits, not gigabytes. The exact selected chip may be a bare IC, whereas a module option is an assembled carrier board with its own header and wiring. Never assume the title's headline capacity applies to every Color or quantity option.

Voltage is a first-order compatibility test. Some listings explicitly specify 1.8 V for W25Q128JW, W25Q256JW, MT25QU01G and MX25V-series choices; others describe 2.7–3.6 V or 3 V for W25Q128JV/FV, AT25DF321A and other variants. These are listing-specific claims, not universal family ratings. Confirm the full suffix and manufacturer's datasheet for VCC range, input-high thresholds, output drive and maximum frequency. A 3.3 V programmer or MCU output connected to a 1.8 V-only die can damage it even if both have eight pins. A USB-powered programmer's 5 V input likewise says nothing about its selected target voltage.

For SPI/QSPI boot or firmware updates, verify the host controller's read commands, JEDEC ID table, address width, write-enable behavior, erase-sector size, status-register semantics, Quad Enable bit, reset/deep-power-down support and the exact flash variant recognized by firmware. Higher-density parts may require 4-byte addressing or bank-register handling; doubling capacity does not guarantee a drop-in replacement. Continuous read/XIP, dual/quad data modes, maximum bus speed and package marking require device-specific confirmation. NOR supports nonvolatile storage but erase and program occur under device-defined granularity and endurance limits; it is not SRAM and it is not a substitute for a managed SSD.

Packages, parallel flash and legacy replacements

SOIC/SOP-8 chips are offered alongside WSON/USON/UDFN-8, SOP-16, TSOP-48, PLCC-32, DIP-32 and FBGA parts. Check body width and pad pitch, exposed-pad arrangement, pin-1 location and land pattern before ordering. A WSON 5 × 6 mm part, an 8 × 6 mm part and a SOIC-8 part are not footprint-compatible merely because all have eight contacts. Socket variants marked 2 × 3, 4 × 4, 5 × 6 or 6 × 8 designate physical geometry, not guaranteed electrical compatibility. Compare the exact chip's ball/pin map and adapter wiring to the programmer's current device list.

Parallel NOR examples include S29GL512S, S29JL032H, M28W320, AM29F010B, AM29F400BB, MX29LV320, SST39SF020A and AT29C020. Here the data-bus width, address mapping, byte/word mode, VCC/VPP, command set, access time and boot-sector layout are critical. Parts with similar densities may have different top- versus bottom-boot sectors or different package pins. Do not substitute SPI NOR for a parallel device on a legacy board, or assume a new flash will preserve existing firmware without imaging and a verified programming plan. A product page's “original” claim, broad operating-temperature entry or generic IC category is not a measured specification or proof of traceability.

Programmer, socket and clip choices

The collection has RT809H/RT809HSE, SFLY SP20B/SP20F/SP20X/SP20P, CH341A/CH341B and related programmer listings, as well as XGecu T48-specific TSOP48 and QFN/WSON sockets, eMMC-ISP adapters and spring-probe cables. “Standard” and “Premium” or SP20B, SP20F and SP20X identify alternative equipment packages or models; the selection must be read before assuming a programmer, adapter or software license is included. An adapter for T48 is not itself a T48, and a spring probe or SOIC clip is not a universal chip reader. Confirm device support by exact part number, selected voltage, package socket, algorithm and current software revision. In-circuit programming additionally depends on board power isolation, competing bus masters, pull resistors and signal loading. Use documented board-specific service procedures rather than improvising connections from a shared connector name.

For production or repair, establish whether you need blank-check, erase, program, verify, readback, preservation of unique serial/calibration data or write protection. Make a verified backup where permitted before changing firmware. Secure-boot, encrypted and OTP/security-register features can prevent a readable image from serving as a reusable replacement. A tool advertised for NAND, eMMC and NOR cannot be assumed to support every protocol without its matching socket, firmware and device definition.

Modules and products that are not loose NOR chips

STM32-oriented W25Q modules typically carry a chip and a small SPI breakout; a part-number selection and a quantity selection can both change the purchase. Check 2.54 mm header pinout, CS/CLK/MOSI/MISO routing, HOLD/WP pull states, supply rail and onboard level shifting rather than assuming “for STM32” means 5 V logic tolerance. RP2040, ESP32-P4, ESP32-S3 and other development boards listed with 2 MB, 4 MB, 16 MB or 32 MB flash are assembled processor boards; their flash may be fitted to the PCB and cannot be purchased as an isolated NOR IC by choosing the board variant. A voice playback module with downloadable audio likewise is a working peripheral, not a generic boot-flash device.

Several MT29F, H27UAG, MX30LF and K9F listings are NAND, with different bad-block and ECC responsibilities. BGA153 eMMC and phone memory, M.2 NVMe SSDs and removable SD-card modules are other storage architectures. A CD4001BE is a digital NOR logic gate, not NOR nonvolatile memory; PIC, STM8, AVR and other chips with internal program flash are microcontrollers rather than standalone flash ICs. An Actel FlashPro programmer targets a different programming ecosystem, and a fan controller or collectible storage case does not become semiconductor memory through collection placement. These items remain visible here; rely on the selected product's actual description for what ships.

Engineering selection checklist

  1. Define the required interface: conventional SPI, dual/quad SPI, parallel NOR or a complete assembled module. Confirm the controller has the necessary command and address support.
  2. Record the complete ordering code: manufacturer prefix, density, revision, supply, temperature grade, speed grade, package and suffix. Near-identical short markings can hide consequential differences.
  3. Convert capacity accurately: Mbit divided by eight gives nominal MB; an advertised chip size is not available application storage after firmware, metadata and reserved regions.
  4. Match electrical and mechanical details: VCC and I/O voltage, maximum bus clock, package width/pitch, exposed pad, pinout and socket orientation. Check host PCB and programmer separately.
  5. Plan firmware lifecycle: boot ROM compatibility, JEDEC identification, address modes, erase/program granularity, endurance, data retention, status/lock bits and recovery strategy.
  6. Check exactly what is sold: 1/2/5/10/20/50/100-piece alternatives, bare IC versus breakout board, tool versus adapter-only variant and any cables or software. Supplier claims of authenticity and test coverage should be verified when the application requires traceability.

Frequently asked questions

Is a W25Q128 a 128 MB chip? No. A 128 Mbit designation corresponds to 16 MB nominal; inspect the exact selected suffix and module contents.

Can I use a 1.8 V W25Q128JW where a 3.3 V W25Q128JV was fitted? Not as an assumed drop-in. Compare both datasheets, I/O levels, commands, package and system supply.

Are SPI NOR and raw NAND interchangeable? No. Their addressing, erase organization, firmware commands and NAND ECC/bad-block requirements differ substantially.

Does “Quad SPI” mean every board will boot from this device? No. Host boot ROM, pin routing, read opcode, flash ID, voltage and firmware setup must align.

Does a T48 or QFN adapter listing include the programmer? Adapter listings may supply only a socket or cable. Confirm the exact variant's package list.

Will a SOIC clip work without desoldering? Not necessarily. Connected components and other bus devices can interfere; verify in-circuit support and the board-specific procedure.

Does “NOR gate” mean NOR flash? No. CD4001 and similar logic ICs compute a Boolean OR-NOT function and do not store user firmware.

Are “original” and generic temperature claims independently verified? No such conclusion follows from supplier wording. Request complete marking, lot and traceability for critical builds, and use Yoeruyo's published policies rather than conflicting supplier boilerplate.

This collection guide distinguishes technologies; it does not certify device originality, programmer coverage, safety or brand affiliation. The exact live variant and the selected manufacturer's datasheet remain the authoritative engineering starting points.
