PCM5102 I2S Audio DAC Boards, ICs and Related Audio Modules

PCM5102 audio DAC boards and chips: identify the selected deliverable

Browse PCM5102 and PCM5102A digital-to-analog audio converter breakout boards, pHAT-format Raspberry Pi sound cards, bare TSSOP-20 ICs and integrated Bluetooth or preamplifier equipment that lists a PCM5102-family DAC. This is a mixed collection: it also contains selectable PCM5100/PCM5101 chips, connector parts whose 51021 number resembles 5102, Hantek DSO5102P oscilloscopes, amplifiers, ESP32 boards and accessory-only options. The selected variant, not a parent title or collection search term, determines the actual item and quantity. A DAC chip is not an assembled audio board; a complete power amplifier is not a bare DAC; a Bluetooth antenna or chassis-only selection does not include the receiver electronics.

Digital audio in, analog line signal out

PCM5102-family stereo DACs turn appropriately formatted serial digital audio into left and right analog outputs for a downstream line input or correctly designed analog stage. Typical boards use an I²S-style interface: bit clock, left/right word clock, serial audio data and ground, with a suitable supply. Some larger boards also offer a switchable left-justified input mode. Verify the exact chip and board pin labels before connecting a host. An I²S DAC cannot directly decode a USB data stream, Bluetooth radio signal or optical S/PDIF merely because a finished product elsewhere in this collection has those features. Such a finished device adds its own transport receiver, controller and power circuitry.

Product titles advertise 24-bit audio, 32-bit/384 kHz input, 112 dB SNR or a 2.1 Vrms output for some particular designs. These claims must not be applied indiscriminately to every board, variant or assembled system. Digital input word length is not proof of 32-bit analog resolution, and a sample-rate label is not a guarantee that the host, firmware, board clocking, configuration and analog output stage support that mode together. Compare the selected chip's current manufacturer specifications with the individual board documentation, including supply arrangement and the measurable conditions behind SNR and distortion figures.

GY-PCM5102, CJMCU-5102 and pHAT-style boards

Many options name GY-PCM5102, CJMCU-5102 or MCU-PCM5102. These are board-format choices rather than universally identical PCBs. Several listings offer 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 boards; another option combines a chosen board style and count. Some pHAT-format descriptions show a soldered 3.5 mm stereo jack, while other decoder boards describe RCA line connectors or simple pin headers. Check the photos and the selected item's description for jack style, header population, orientation, dimensions, supply, and whether a cable is supplied. “For Raspberry Pi” does not mean plug-and-play compatibility with every Pi generation, operating-system image or pin map. ESP32 and Arduino host projects require compatible digital-audio hardware and software; simply providing a GPIO pin is not enough to create the correct I²S clocks and data stream.

The 3.5 mm connector on a low-power DAC board is commonly a stereo line-level output even where a seller title says “headphone output.” Do not assume it is a rated high-current headphone driver or a passive-speaker power amplifier. For direct headphone drive, check the board's specified load and output-stage design; for speakers, use a suitable power amplifier. Avoid tying two output drivers together, and verify whether a board is AC-coupled or relies on a particular analog-output bias arrangement before integrating it into an external amplifier.

Some assembled DAC boards claim 5–10 V input while small breakout boards may use a different supply rail and on-board regulation. The voltage printed on one listing is not the permitted voltage at every PCM5102 IC pin or all GY boards. Determine whether the voltage applies to an assembled board's power input, a regulator input, or the chip's actual supply. Match digital input logic levels and ground reference to the exact board and host. Inspect jumper positions, filter selection, mute settings and format straps where that board provides them; different PCB revisions can differ despite a shared GY-PCM5102 name.

Bare PCM5102A and adjacent IC variants

Separate listings offer PCM5102APWR/PCM5102APW as bare TSSOP-20 surface-mount ICs, sometimes in 2-, 5-, 10-, 50- or 100-piece packs. These require a designed PCB with the appropriate footprint, power filtering, grounding, digital-audio clocks/data, configuration and analog output routing. The /PWR or similarly suffixed orderable code must be matched to its actual manufacturer package and packing before PCB assembly. Claims such as “new original” in supplier titles do not independently establish traceability or authorization.

Mixed family listings also offer PCM5100APWR, PCM5101APWR, PCM5100AQPWRQ1, PCM5101AQPWRQ1 and PCM5102AQPWRQ1. The parent title can list all of them, while the selected option names only one part. Do not presume identical analog performance, pin behavior, qualification, compliance or packing across PCM5100, PCM5101 and PCM5102 variants. A part-number suffix containing Q1 is not, by itself, proof that the specific inventory lot comes with documents or certifications required for a regulated application. Validate the exact manufacturer's ordering code and its datasheet rather than substituting based solely on TSSOP-20 or similar family names.

Some mixed electronic-component listings offer “5PCS PCM5102APWR” or “100PCS PCM5102APWR” alongside FT232BL, M41T56, AMC1200, MLX22323 and other unrelated devices. Another offers PCM5102APWR alongside an MPU-6050, USB3343 and a microcontroller. The selected part and pack count are decisive; these titles do not describe multi-part kits.

Bluetooth receivers, preamps and complete amplifiers

Several products combine a Bluetooth or USB player/receiver stage with a PCM5102 DAC, output op amp, control display or preamplifier. Listings name CSR8675, QCC3034, QCC3084 and QCC5125 among differing assemblies. Their supported codecs, radio versions, USB playback, antenna arrangement, power input and analog outputs come from the specific assembled product, not from a stand-alone PCM5102 chip. “LDAC,” “aptX HD,” Bluetooth 5.1 or Bluetooth 5.4 in a product title should be checked against that selected receiver's chipset, firmware, source device and documentation. A PCM5102 DAC alone provides none of those radio or codec functions.

A 2.1 amplifier listing offers QCC3034 versus QCC3084 and 110 V versus 220 V choices. Those are finished high-power audio systems whose mains input, enclosure and output ratings require product-specific review; the advertised “300 W × 2 + 600 W” is not a PCM5102 DAC output rating. Other TPA3116D2 and TPA3255 amplifier boards differ in supply requirements, speakers, heatsinking and load-dependent power. A number of TPA3116 boards in this collection do not have a PCM5102 selected option at all, so never infer DAC inclusion from collection membership. For a Bluetooth preamp with “cable 400MM,” “Transformer,” or “Chassis only” options, selecting a cable, transformer or chassis does not mean receiving the completed preamp. Verify the actual variant before purchase, and have qualified personnel handle mains-powered equipment.

Clocking, signal integrity and sound quality

Reliable I²S playback needs the correct relationship between bit clock, left/right word clock, audio data alignment and the selected board's mode. Misalignment can produce silence, shifted samples, channel swap, clicks or gross distortion. A product description saying “I2S / left-aligned” implies a configuration choice for that board, not automatic recognition of any serial protocol. Confirm whether the exact DAC circuit requires or derives a master clock in its supported configuration, rather than assuming every audio DAC accepts the same MCLK topology. Choose host settings only after reading the selected chip and PCB documentation.

Keep digital clock traces and switching supplies from contaminating analog output and ground returns. Review host power noise, decoupling, board regulator behavior, cable shielding, output load and amplifier input sensitivity. Hiss, hum, clipping and ground-loop noise usually require tracing the whole chain, including the source and downstream amplifier, rather than interpreting a single chip SNR figure as a system guarantee. “Lossless,” “HiFi” and “beyond ES9023/PCM1794” appear in seller descriptions but are not measured comparative evidence for every variant. For critical work, use the exact board schematic and independently relevant measurements.

Non-audio products sharing the 5102 search string

The first group of products here is 1.25 mm-pitch 51021-series/PicoBlade-style connector material: pre-crimped 150 mm wires, 2–15-position housing choices, 20-piece 51021-1500 connector lots, and larger connector-and-wire kits. “51021” is a connector-series number, not a PCM5102 audio DAC. Pin count and 10-piece wire lots differ by selected option. A connector kit may include housings, pre-crimped leads and tools according to its individual description; it does not contain a DAC simply because it appears on this page. Do not treat unverified “Molex,” CE, RoHS or UL phrases in supplier descriptions as proof of genuine branded parts or certified assembly.

Hantek DSO5102P listings are digital oscilloscopes, offered alongside DSO5072P and DSO5202P model choices; their 5102 number is a scope model, not a DAC. Further unrelated listings contain CH32V003 chips, ESP32 development boards, LA1185 ICs, and standalone TPA3116 amplifier boards or chips. Product membership is retained, but their presence should not be interpreted as audio DAC availability in each option. Read the model and option name before comparing prices, especially where an accessory or different voltage/model variant appears beside a main device.

Choosing by actual application

  1. Need stereo analog line output from an I²S host? Choose an assembled PCM5102A board matching the host's supply, pinout and connector, or a bare PCM5102APWR only if designing and assembling the PCB yourself.
  2. Need an integrated Bluetooth receiver? Choose a receiver/preamp variant with a documented Bluetooth chipset, supported codec path, antenna and output stage. Do not buy a bare DAC chip expecting wireless audio.
  3. Need to drive passive speakers? Choose an appropriately rated amplifier and power supply; a PCM5102 line-output module alone is not a speaker amplifier.
  4. Need a different family IC? Choose the PCM5100 or PCM5101 variant expressly, then verify its part-specific performance and qualification against your design requirements.
  5. Need a connector, scope or cable? Match the 51021 connector position, DSO model or accessory selection, without assuming any PCM5102 device is supplied.
  6. Check the pack: Match board style, chip/assembled format, connector and number of units to the selected option. “1–20PCS” or a multi-model title is not a promise that every choice contains all models or 20 pieces.

Frequently asked questions

Is PCM5102 an ADC or a DAC? It is a stereo digital-to-analog audio converter. It receives supported digital audio and produces analog audio outputs; it does not sample an analog sensor for a microcontroller.

Does a PCM5102A pHAT board include Bluetooth? Not unless the specific board includes a separate Bluetooth receiver stage. Bare pHAT/I²S DAC listings and integrated Bluetooth receiver listings are different products.

Is “32-bit 384K” guaranteed for every listing? No. Some assembled board titles claim such input formats, but actual chip, host, board clocks and operating mode must all support the chosen format. It does not imply 32-bit analog accuracy.

Can I drive speakers from the 3.5 mm jack? Do not assume so. Confirm output loading and use a separate power amplifier for passive speakers unless the specific product explicitly includes a suitable speaker output stage.

What is the difference between PCM5102APWR and GY-PCM5102? The former is a bare IC ordering code; the latter names an assembled board format. Check the selected listing for connectors, power arrangements and quantity.

Why are 51021 cables and DSO5102P oscilloscopes shown here? They share similar digits with the search term but are connector parts and test instruments, not audio DACs. Keep the selected model and product category in view.

All selection and engineering guidance here is model-specific. Check the chosen variant and current component or board documentation for electrical limits, included accessories and documented performance.
