PNP Transistors and NPN/PNP Assortment Kits
Compare PNP bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) in through-hole and surface-mount packages, including single-model packs, complementary NPN/PNP pairs and multi-value assortments. This collection also contains shared listings with NPN transistors and other semiconductor choices. The selected model and variant determine what you receive; a PNP keyword in a shared title does not make every option a PNP BJT.
Choose the right type of PNP transistor
- Small-signal through-hole: options include 2N2907/2N2907A, 2N3906, 2N5401, BC327, BC557, BC560C, 2SA1015, S8550 and S9015 in listings that describe TO-92 packages. Gain suffixes such as BC557C or BC327B identify specific selections; do not assume that different suffixes are interchangeable.
- Surface-mount: listings include MMBT3906, MMBT4403, MMBT5401, BC807-25/BC807-40, BC856B, BC857A/B/C, 2SA1015 and S8550/SS8550 in SOT-23, plus PMBT2907A and other SOT-23 or SOT-323 models. PZT2907A is listed in SOT-223; other PNP choices include SOT-89 and TO-252. Match package dimensions, footprint and terminal assignment rather than selecting by polarity alone.
- Power and complementary pairs: listings include BD140 and 2SB772 in TO-126 or SOT-89, TIP32C/TIP36C, MJD44H11G, and MJ15025/MJ15024-family TO-3 choices. Pair options such as BC547/BC557, 2N5551/2N5401, BD139/BD140 and BC550C/BC560C mix NPN and PNP devices. Check whether a listing supplies one model, both models, or a specified number of each. A complementary pair is not automatically a matched pair for gain or thermal behavior.
- Assortment boxes: 24-value, 480-piece TO-92 kits, 10-value 100-piece packs and other mixed sets include multiple NPN and PNP part numbers. One 20-value, 400-piece kit description also lists 2N7000 MOSFETs. Confirm each kit's model breakdown and counts; a pack total is not a count of PNP transistors alone.
Important boundaries in this collection
Some included listings offer NPN-only variants such as 2N3055, 2SD882 or 2SD669A, or unrelated 2N7000 MOSFET, IGBT, BAV70 diode, LM317/78L05 regulator and light-sensitive GL-series element choices. A photodetector or photoresistor listing should not be treated as a general-purpose PNP switching transistor. TIP-series and TO-3 menus may also offer Darlington devices; their base-drive and voltage behavior differ from a conventional single BJT. Model numbers, component markings and claimed electrical ratings in seller titles can be inconsistent, so verify the exact chosen device against its own datasheet.
Selection checklist
- Confirm whether the selected part is a PNP BJT, an NPN BJT, a Darlington, a MOSFET, an IGBT or another component. For a PNP design, match the full device number and gain group rather than relying on the collection name.
- Compare manufacturer documentation for collector-emitter voltage, collector current, gain at the intended operating point, saturation behavior, power dissipation, thermal limits, safe operating area where applicable, pinout and package. Even similarly named TO-92 and SOT-23 versions may require a different board footprint and terminal order.
- Read every option value and quantity. “Color” often selects a model or pack size; options such as 10, 30, 50, 100 or 3,000 pieces and paired packs represent different purchases. Where a seller headline disagrees with a model or type description, do not assume the headline is authoritative; check the selected listing and device documentation.
Frequently asked questions
Is a PNP transistor interchangeable with an NPN transistor?
No. They have opposite polarity and require an appropriate circuit design. A complementary listing offers separate part numbers, not interchangeable versions of the same transistor.
Are 2N3906 and MMBT3906 the same physical package?
No. Listings here describe 2N3906 as TO-92 and MMBT3906 as SOT-23. Verify the exact manufacturer's electrical specifications and pin assignments before adapting a design.
Does an NPN/PNP kit contain equal quantities of each polarity?
Not necessarily. Check the model-by-model contents: some listings are 25 plus 25 pairs, while multi-value boxes provide different part lists. A 480-piece total alone does not establish the NPN/PNP split.
Can I use a part marked as PNP in the product headline without checking the variant?
No. Shared product pages here include NPN-only options and non-BJT parts. Check the selected part number, package and datasheet before purchasing.
