SMD 5730 LEDs, Light Boards and Strip Lighting
SMD 5730 lighting: select the actual part, not just the package number
SMD 5730 identifies an LED package format, approximately 5.7 × 3.0 mm. It does not specify the current, forward voltage, luminous output, color rendering, driver or voltage of an assembled light. This assortment includes loose 5730/5630 emitters, populated round and linear aluminum boards, 5 V USB lights, 12/24 V rigid and flexible strips, mains-input replacement boards, finished household and automotive bulbs, signs and pool lights. There are also 2835, 5050, COB, cable and connector choices in overlapping listings. Read the selected variant to determine what is supplied; a search match mentioning 5730 is not proof that its selected option contains 5730 LEDs.
Start with the delivered assembly
- Loose surface-mount LEDs: 100- and 500-piece listings offer distinct 5730, 5630, 2835 and smaller package choices, with white temperature or colored emitters. A mixed 0402/0603/0805/1206/1210/5050/5730 assortment may deliver the selected package and color, not every package shown in the title. Individual diode ratings such as 0.1 W, 0.2 W, 0.5 W, 3 V, 6 V or 9 V are listing- and variant-specific; verify polarity, pad footprint, current and heat path before board design.
- Populated light-source boards: 20–120 mm round boards, USB-cable boards, 3–50 W circular panels, 150–520 mm retrofit bars and floodlight boards are built assemblies rather than loose LEDs. Different board layouts use different numbers and series strings of chips, and some options explicitly switch to 2835 LEDs at a particular wattage. Choose the board's diameter, hole positions, rated operating window, white color, lead/plug arrangement and driver type together.
- Strips and finished lamps: 12 V flexible 5630/5730 tape, DC rigid aluminum bars, 5 V USB reading lights, E27/E14/B22/E39/E40 corn bulbs, GU4/MR11 and G4 lamps, vehicle T10/festoon/BA15S lamps, sign modules and PAR56 pool lamps solve very different installation problems. A screw-base or automotive lamp is not an LED PCB for direct soldering; an unpowered PCB is not a ready-to-use bulb.
- Accessory-only variants: some 50 cm aluminum-channel listings offer U- or V-profile 90°/180° corner connectors instead of a lit bar. One 2/3/4/5/6-pin listing is 22 AWG wire in 5/10/50/100 m lengths, not LED tape. Confirm the ordered variant before assuming light output.
Electrical classification is more important than appearance
A bare LED is a current-driven semiconductor and ordinarily needs an engineered current-limiting circuit. A populated board may require an external constant-current LED driver even when its product title gives a wattage. In one round 5730-board listing the stated operating windows are approximately 9–11 V for 3 W, 15–17 V for 5 W, 21–23 V for 7 W, 27–29 V for 9 W, 36–39 V for 12 W, 45–48 V for 15 W, 54–58 V for 18 W, 72–77 V for 24 W and 108–116 V for one 36 W configuration; these are examples from that listing, not interchangeable limits for all boards here. Its own instructions expressly require an LED driver. Wattage alone cannot identify the correct driver; match its specified output current and compliance-voltage range, thermal capacity and insulation to the exact board.
Another 5730 round-board listing separates “No Wires,” pre-soldered red/black power cord and plug-cord options, across 2/3/5/7/9 W diameters and 3000/4000/6000 K choices. A lead wire or mating plug does not itself make a constant-current board compatible with a 5 V USB supply. By contrast, the 5 V USB 31/50 mm boards have selected 3/5/10 W and dimmable/non-dimmable options, while pocket-style six-LED USB lights are finished low-voltage plug-in products with their own touch controls. Do not transfer the input specification of one of these products to another.
Some round or linear replacement boards are explicitly listed for AC 180–260 V input with an integrated driver; a separate T5/T8-style rigid-board listing says AC 180–260 V and sells 5, 10 or 50 boards depending on the selected quantity. This is a different electrical class from DC LED boards and is not safe to use as a 12 V strip. The 3 W choice of one AC board is described as SMD 2835 despite the larger 5730 title. These assemblies expose hazardous mains potential; installation belongs in a suitably enclosed, insulated, heat-managed luminaire by a qualified person, following the exact product instructions and local electrical requirements. Do not treat “driverless” as meaning electrically isolated or touch-safe.
Flexible tape versus rigid channel bars
The collection's 12 V flexible tapes include 5630/5730 5 m, 60 LEDs/m and 120 LEDs/m examples, with warm white, natural white, cool white or individual red/green/blue color choices. Some supplier copy explicitly identifies the chip as SMD5630 even when its headline says 5730. Choose by the selected chip description and actual board markings rather than a “brighter than 5050” headline. A single-color strip is not RGB-addressable just because the product offers different colors in a drop-down. The 60 LEDs/m listing distinguishes IP20 and IP65 treatments and says a separate 12 V adapter is required. Cut pitch, strip width, power consumption and maximum continuous run must be verified on that strip rather than generalized from another 5730 tape.
Rigid 50 cm 5730 bars typically pair an aluminum profile and PC cover with a DC 12 V 36-LED strip. Options can specify U- or V-profile, clear or milky diffuser, approximately 3000/4000/6000 K light and 1–20 pieces. The same selector can offer only a U/V 90° or 180° corner connector. Thus “6 pcs / V 180 degree corner” is not six complete illuminated bars. Other rigid-bar listings offer 8/25/50 cm, 5/12/24 V or different LED counts; there is no universal voltage simply because the metal channel looks similar. A different 50 cm bar listing offers 5, 12 and 24 V with warm and natural white choices, and a 10 cm rigid board listing offers DC 5 V versus DC 12/24 V with different LED counts. Check board voltage before selecting an adapter, dimmer or replacement segment.
Compare diffuser width, profile depth, mounting clips, end caps, finish, lead termination and piece count to the installation. Milky covers diffuse discrete points but may reduce apparent output compared with transparent covers; no collection-wide transmission or lumens rating is implied. Adhesive tape on a bare flexible PCB and a housed rigid bar have different mounting and thermal paths. For longer installations, account for current, supply capacity and voltage drop; do not infer that a 5 m reel can be powered at its rated brightness from one end under every wiring condition.
Color, light quality and thermal design
Listings commonly offer warm white around 3000 K, natural white around 4000 K and cool white around 6000–6500 K; some variants use broader or unusual labels, including a “95000K” typo. Use the actual selectable CCT and product specifications rather than treating every warm/white label as the same chromaticity. Red, green, blue, violet, yellow and other colored emitter boards are distinct single-color light sources, not automatically multi-channel color-changing lamps. Color rendering index, flux and beam angle are configuration-specific; one vendor's 50–55 lm emitter or 100–110 lm/W board claim cannot be applied to every diode, strip or finished luminaire on this page.
Electrical power not emitted as light becomes heat. A loose 5730 diode needs a suitable footprint and thermal path; an aluminum PCB or heat spreader still needs correct mounting in an enclosure. Increased junction temperature changes output and lifetime. For retrofit boards, check physical clearance, board diameter or length, existing heatsink, diffuser and driver current. Do not assume a replacement board is a drop-in match because its stated watts resemble those of the original bulb. Supplier lifetime and certification text in individual listings has not been established as an assortment-wide guarantee.
Finished household, automotive and specialist lights
E27/E14/B22 corn bulbs in this assortment offer many LED counts, input ranges and colors; E39/E40 options have different large-base applications. A “220 V” title and an “85–265 V” option are not equivalent unless the selected SKU states its own rated input. Confirm lamp base, supply frequency/voltage, fixture clearance, heat dissipation and dimmer compatibility before replacing an existing lamp. GU4/MR11 and G4 options are typically low-voltage lamps with AC/DC 12 V listings, but an existing halogen transformer may not behave correctly at a low LED load. Match the actual base geometry and power source. One G4 page mentions 12/24 V in its headline, so its chosen version matters.
Vehicle options include T10/W5W/194/168 wedges, BA15S/BAY15D/1156, C5W festoons in 28–41 mm lengths, H3 fog lamps, T20/7440 bulbs, license-plate bolts, cargo-bed modules and 12 V eagle-eye markers. Confirm socket keying, polarity, physical clearance, 12 versus 24 V electrical system and permissible use at the intended lamp position. Seller phrases such as “CANbus error free” or a long list of car functions do not establish compatibility with every vehicle, load-detection circuit or road-legal lighting requirement. A multi-bulb kit for a named car model must be checked bulb by bulb against its actual sockets and year.
DC 12 V three-LED injection modules are sign components, not standalone mains bulbs. A PAR56 pool-light listing offers 18/25/35 W and RGB, warm white or cold white options, while its detailed description calls out SMD 2835 despite “5730” in the headline; select from its actual variant and check housing dimensions, 12 V supply type, controller/remote inclusion, niche and underwater sealing. Only the RGB option's seller description says a remote is included, without its battery. An IP68 label on a pool luminaire does not certify the transformer, wiring junction or installation. Pool electrical work needs the appropriate isolated supply and local-code installation by a qualified professional. Do not use a non-pool light underwater.
Mixed results and inclusion boundaries
A 5 V WS2812B 5050 pixel strip and matching pixel ring are addressable RGB lighting, not 5730 single-color tape. Another 5050 RGBCCT six-pin product offers 12/24 V multi-channel white and color control; its control wiring cannot be inferred from a two-wire white strip. The 5 V 2835/3528 USB strip, 24 V 2835 neon, 5050 USB RGB sets and Tuya RGB backlights likewise have their own actual emitter, supply, control and accessory requirements. Their appearance in this collection reflects the existing catalog, not proof of 5730 package content. For any of these products, use its own protocol, voltage, selected length, protection treatment and included controller instead of this collection's general 5730 guidance.
Order-check sequence
- Read the selected variant for the exact delivered object: loose LEDs, populated PCB, rigid bar, flexible strip, completed bulb, module, cable or corner fitting. Confirm pack quantity separately from LED count per board.
- Identify the package and circuit: 5730, 5630, 2835, 5050 or COB; single color, selectable white, analog RGB or addressable pixel. Names in a shared product headline may refer to different variant families.
- Match the selected input specification: a low-voltage DC assembly, USB device, constant-current driver board or integrated-driver mains PCB. Never connect an unverified board directly to a voltage source or to mains.
- Compare fit: footprint and solder pads for bare diodes; diameter/holes for retrofit panels; length/profile/cover for bars; base and envelope for lamps; socket and polarity for vehicles.
- For strips verify LEDs per metre, cut marks, length, CCT, rated watts per metre and whether any power supply or controller ships with the option. For sealed products verify how cut ends and wiring remain protected.
- Review the particular product's thermal, electrical and optical specifications; supplier claims about brightness, lifetime, safety marks or universal compatibility do not carry across this entire assortment.
The selected product variant and its supporting instructions determine what arrives and whether it fits the intended system. This guide explains distinctions without changing product membership or representing unrelated products as 5730 LEDs.
