Tantalum Capacitors, SMD & Through-Hole

Tantalum capacitors for PCB assembly and repair

This collection brings together solid tantalum capacitors in surface-mount and leaded formats, assorted value kits, and selected low-ESR polymer capacitor listings. A capacitor's capacitance, rated voltage and case size belong to the specific option selected, not to every item on this page. Some marketplace titles call conductive-polymer aluminum capacitors “tantalum”; check the exact manufacturer's part number and dielectric before specifying one as a tantalum replacement.

What formats are listed?

  • Surface-mount solid tantalum: A/3216, B/3528, C/6032, D/7343 and selected E-case and smaller J/1608 or P/2012 options. Case letters can vary by series; match the dimension drawing and recommended land pattern rather than relying on a letter or an imperial package nickname alone.
  • Leaded and axial parts: through-hole DIP/radial listings and an axial TAAA224K063 option require different mounting footprints and polarity checks than chip capacitors.
  • Polymer and low-ESR parts: listings include specifically identified 2R5TPE330M7/M9, 2R5TPE470M7/M9, T520/T521 and TQC variants. ESR and voltage differ by exact suffix and selected variant. EEFCX entries identify conductive-polymer aluminum, which must not be represented as solid tantalum.
  • Assortment kits: A/B-case multi-value boxes and DIP/SMD sets contain multiple capacitances; check the included value chart and quantities instead of treating the advertised range as one component.

How to select a tantalum capacitor

  1. Match capacitance in µF (or nF) and the actual rated DC voltage for the selected variant, with the derating required by the circuit and the manufacturer's guidance.
  2. Identify dielectric and technology: conventional solid tantalum, polymer tantalum and polymer aluminum are not interchangeable just because capacitance and case markings look similar.
  3. Match package body dimensions, height, terminal polarity, land pattern or lead spacing, and the marked orientation. Tantalum capacitors are polarized; incorrect installation can cause failure.
  4. For power rails, check the exact part's ESR at its specified test conditions, ripple-current rating, operating temperature, leakage current, tolerance and lifetime/reliability guidance. Do not assume “low ESR” applies to every capacitor here.
  5. For repairs, verify the original schematic, part number and required circuit behavior. A title mentioning a laptop, GPU, console or a replacement code does not establish drop-in compatibility.
  6. Confirm pack size and whether the option is one fixed value or an assortment.

Important comparison: voltage, code and footprint

Markings such as 106, 226, 476 and 107 commonly encode capacitance, but the marking alone does not establish voltage, dielectric, tolerance or ESR. A 7343 D-case polymer part is not necessarily an electrical substitute for a 7343 D-case conventional tantalum part. Listings span multiple capacitances and ratings, including 2 V/2.5 V polymer options and higher-voltage solid tantalum options; never transfer one rating to another variant. Supplier claims of “original” or named brands are not independent authentication or certification.

Ordering checklist

  • Exact manufacturer part number and technology
  • Capacitance, tolerance and rated voltage of the chosen option
  • Voltage-derating and surge requirements
  • ESR, ripple-current and leakage limits where relevant
  • Case dimensions, height, polarity and PCB footprint
  • Operating-temperature and reliability requirements
  • Pack quantity or assortment contents

Frequently asked questions

Are tantalum and polymer capacitors the same?

No. Polymer tantalum, conventional solid tantalum and polymer aluminum use different construction and electrical characteristics. Check the exact part number.

Can a 10 µF capacitor replace another 10 µF capacitor?

Only after confirming voltage, derating, technology, ESR, leakage, ripple current, polarity, temperature and footprint for the circuit.

Does A, B, C or D guarantee a matching footprint?

No. Verify the manufacturer's dimensions, height, terminal geometry and recommended land pattern.

Does “for MacBook” or “for PS5” prove repair compatibility?

No. Match the device revision and original component requirements before purchase.
