TDA8954TH Audio Amplifier ICs and Class-D Boards

TDA8954TH bare power-amplifier ICs and assembled Class-D boards

Choose between loose TDA8954TH-family audio power-amplifier chips and larger assembled amplifier boards. This collection is deliberately described by what the selected variant supplies: a 24-lead surface-mount IC needs a custom PCB and supporting circuitry, whereas an XH-M252-style stereo board or XH-M253-style mono board has power-stage components already populated but still requires a compatible external power source, audio signal, speaker load and installation. Several listings present alternative TDA8950, TDA8953, TDA8920 or TDA8922 chips, and later pages include unrelated PAM8610 boards. Do not equate collection membership or a long seller headline with the exact part in your parcel.

Bare IC versus assembled amplifier board

  • Loose TDA8954TH / TDA8954TH/N1: many listings identify a 24-lead HSOP-24, HSOP24 or HSSOP-24 surface-mount audio power IC. This is not a plug-in home amplifier, automotive head unit or finished board. It requires a correct footprint, thermal layout, external components and a design suited to its operating mode. Confirm the full device suffix and manufacturer's package drawing where a listing uses HSOP and HSSOP interchangeably.
  • Alternative loose chips: selectable TDA8950TH, TDA8953TH, TDA8920TH, TDA8920BTH, TDA8920CTH, TDA8922TH and TDA8922CTH appear in multi-model listings. Similar 24-lead audio-amplifier packaging is not proof of pin compatibility, identical output rating or an approved substitution. A separate listing offers TDA8954J/N1 in ZIP23 versus TDA8954TH in HSOP24, a particularly important mechanical distinction.
  • Dual-channel boards: XH-M252, M252 or XR-N252 product pages describe assembled stereo boards based on two TDA8954TH devices; some describe an AC 24 V-0-24 V transformer-style input and a roughly 107 × 93 × 30 mm board. XH-M254 versions describe a larger dual-channel board with a fan and their own power requirements. An individual listing calling itself “2 × 420 W” is reporting a seller headline, not a measured continuous stereo output guarantee.
  • Mono / bridge-mode boards: XH-M253 and XH-M257-labelled pages describe single-channel BTL or subwoofer-oriented amplifier boards. Some quote AC 20–28 V or AC 24 V-0-24 V input, 4–8 Ω speaker loads and a 420 W headline. A mono board is not a two-channel board simply because its product page also mentions TDA8954TH. Verify the board's actual labels and documentation before selecting an output or supply arrangement.
  • Other assembled options: one amplifier listing offers “With Bluetooth 5.0” and “Without Bluetooth” as distinct selections. Another dual-core board offers a choice labelled TDA7498E versus TDA8954; the TDA7498E choice is not a TDA8954TH board. The listing's “tube,” “Marantz,” and “vocal preamp” wording is not technical evidence of a valve stage, affiliation or specific included preamplifier.
  • Other products in this collection: later product pages include PAM8610 stereo boards, loose PAM8610TR QFN chips and a TPA3110-labelled board. These are different amplifier families with substantially different supply and board expectations. A mixed five-piece selection also offers TDF8590TH, TDF8591TH, 811600-4623 or 272154CU alternatives rather than TDA8954TH; its title is not a five-model assortment guarantee.

What the model-and-quantity selectors mean

The common “TDA8950TH TDA8953TH TDA8954TH” headline usually represents separate one-piece model variants; choose TDA8954TH explicitly if that is your design requirement. Other listings offer 1/2/5/10 pieces of TDA8954TH, 1/3/5 pieces, 1/5/10 pieces or 1/10/50 pieces. There are also two-piece and five-piece chip listings. A page listing 100/10/1-piece quantities is specifically for TDA8920BTH, and a page offering 10/1 pieces of TDA8950TH is not an order for TDA8954TH. Pack size and model are jointly controlled by the selected option, not by the broad collection title.

A variant that says only “CN,” “China Mainland” or “Default Title” does not establish a hidden pack count, exact PCB revision, heatsink contents or semiconductor traceability. Read the individual product description, illustrations and the selected option. If the headline lists more than one semiconductor but has no model option, confirm the actual supplied part before using it in repair or PCB assembly. The source wording “original,” “genuine,” “100% new,” “imported” or “automotive” is seller text, not proof of authorized supply, component lot history, automotive qualification or a test certificate.

How to evaluate power claims responsibly

Amplifier output must be specified at a given supply rail, speaker impedance, distortion criterion, channel count, cooling arrangement and measurement duration. A loose chip title quoting “2 × 210 W” refers to an advertised chip capability under an unspecified operating configuration, not to a powered board shipped in the packet. Similarly, a stereo board's “420 W × 2” and a mono board's “420 W” do not establish continuous clean output. Some seller pages even show conflicting structured fields such as “Maximum Power Per Channel: 101–130W,” “Output Power: 0” or “NO POWER” next to 420 W marketing copy. Those contradictions cannot be resolved into a reliable universal rating without a measured specification for the exact board.

Bridge-tied-load operation changes voltage swing and load conditions; it is a circuit mode to be designed and verified, not an instruction to join outputs from independent modules. Avoid inferring that a 2–8 Ω range in one M252 page applies to every dual-channel board or that a 4–8 Ω range for one mono board applies to a loose chip. Choose a loudspeaker impedance supported by the exact board and operating mode. Supplying enough power for a claimed output also requires an appropriately sized transformer or supply, thermal design and wiring, not just a headline wattage.

Supply and installation boundaries

Several assembled board listings call for dual AC 24 V or an AC 24 V-0-24 V transformer, some up to AC 28 or 30 V according to their own descriptions. That is a particular board's AC input arrangement, not permission to feed 24 V AC directly into a bare HSOP-24 IC. Nor should an AC-input board be assumed compatible with a 24 V DC adapter. An individual XH-M254 seller describes “double AC24–28V” with high current and 300 VA-class transformer wording; an M252 seller describes dual AC24 V and a 300 W-plus transformer recommendation. Treat these as listing-specific claims requiring confirmation against the actual printed input terminals and revision. Power wiring at these levels can be hazardous: use a properly rated, isolated supply and qualified installation practices, not improvised mains or output connections.

Heat removal is not optional. A 24-lead power package may rely on exposed or heat-spreading surfaces and a specified PCB thermal structure. Assembled boards can use substantial copper, heatsinks or fans, but the presence of a fan in one XH-M254 listing does not mean all M252/M253 boards have active cooling. A seller's claim that an “AD” stage “works with almost no heat” is not a valid thermal design criterion. Confirm heatsink and fan supply, airflow, case clearance and component operating temperature under the intended load.

Class-D switching outputs and the board's filter network also matter for speaker cable length, electromagnetic interference and measurement. A product called “digital amplifier” generally describes the switching output stage; do not assume a digital audio data input, Bluetooth receiver or DAC unless explicitly included for the selected board. Match the source signal level to the actual analog input and avoid treating an amplifier speaker output as a line-level output.

Practical comparison checklist

  1. Identify the deliverable: HSOP24/HSSOP24 bare chip, ZIP23 alternative, populated stereo PCB, mono BTL PCB or Bluetooth-equipped variant. No enclosure, speaker, transformer or cables are implied by the collection name.
  2. Check full part and suffix: TDA8954TH, TDA8954TH/N1, TDA8954J/N1, TDA8953TH, TDA8950TH and TDA8920/8922 choices must be treated separately. Verify package code and pin map before a repair substitution.
  3. Read both model and quantity: choose the exact chip option and its 1/2/3/5/10/50-piece variant where offered. A bundle of five TDA8954TH chips is not five assembled boards.
  4. Inspect board channel configuration: M252/XR-N252 listings describe two-channel boards while M253/M257 are advertised mono. Compare output terminals and the exact PCB revision, particularly when a listing title says stereo but a detailed specification says mono.
  5. Validate input power type: distinguish transformer-derived dual AC input from DC rail requirements for a bare IC. Compare the exact board's voltage, current, polarity/terminal design and cooling rather than copying another listing's AC range.
  6. Confirm load and output rating: choose speaker impedance and power handling for the selected board and actual operating conditions. “420 W” without measurement conditions is insufficient to size a system or promise sustained output.
  7. Check accessories and protection: fan, Bluetooth board, heatsink, rectifier, preamplifier and protection components vary. A seller description of upgraded parts or generic safety features should not be turned into a collection-wide guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Is every product in this collection TDA8954TH? No. Multi-model chip pages include TDA8950, TDA8953 and TDA8920/8922 alternatives. Some later items are PAM8610 or other families. Check the selected variant.

Does an HSOP-24 chip work by itself with an AC 24 V transformer? No. A bare chip requires a correctly engineered PCB and supply circuit. The transformer-style AC input is described for particular assembled boards.

Is 420 W × 2 a verified continuous specification? No. Listings contain conflicting power fields and omit consistent test conditions. The quoted value is an advertised board headline and cannot be applied across the collection.

Can I replace a ZIP23 TDA8954J with an HSOP24 TDA8954TH? Their packages are mechanically different, and electrical interchangeability must be checked at the full circuit level. Do not infer a drop-in repair from the shared numeric root.

Are the mono and stereo boards interchangeable? No. A BTL mono board and a two-channel board have different output arrangements and may require different load and supply configurations.

Semiconductor family names are used for identification and comparison. No manufacturer affiliation, automotive certification, original-source verification, continuous power or direct substitution is implied for every listing here.
