TPA3255 Amplifier ICs, Class-D Boards and Stereo Amps

TPA3255 amplifier chips, Class-D boards and finished audio amplifiers

Choose the physical product and selected option, not just a headline wattage. This collection spans loose TPA3255DDVR power-amplifier ICs, bare stereo and mono amplifier boards, Bluetooth-equipped 2.0 and 2.1 boards, desktop amplifiers, subwoofer amplifiers, separate power-supply hardware and mixed-model semiconductor listings. A finished amplifier, an unboxed PCB and a single 44-pin IC are different deliverables. Several multi-model pages let you choose a different TPA-series device instead of TPA3255. Power adapters, plug types, cases and cables are included only where the chosen variant and product details specify them.

Start with the form factor

  • Loose ICs: listings for TPA3255DDVR or TPA3255 describe single-piece, two-piece, five-piece and ten-piece selections. These are components for PCB assembly, not powered amplifiers. Listings variously call the package SOP-44, HSSOP-44 or HTSSOP-44; use the full selected orderable number and its authoritative package drawing for footprint, exposed pad and thermal design, rather than assuming all seller package labels are interchangeable.
  • Mixed-model chip listings: many products list TPA3255DDVR together with TPA3245DDVR, TPA3221DDVR or TPA3223DDVR. Others offer TPA3250D2DDWR, TPA3251D2DDVR, TPA3116D2, TPA3118D2, TPA3130D2 and other audio amplifier ICs. The selected variant identifies the chip supplied; a product title listing several models does not mean a kit of all models. Pinout, supply range, output topology and thermal limits require independent checking for each device.
  • Uncased amplifier PCBs: stereo examples include XY-AP3002, ZK-3002, ZK-6002, XY-AP1200, SAMP-100 and BDM-series boards; mono or PBTL examples include dedicated subwoofer and bridgeable designs. Some boards are pure power stages needing an external source and DC supply, while others integrate Bluetooth, controls, DAC or preamplification. “Finished Board” refers to the board's assembly, not necessarily an enclosed plug-in amplifier.
  • 2.1-channel boards: AS21, XY-DP600H, ZK-APTX3 and other dual-chip designs advertise left/right stereo plus a separately controlled bass output. The exact selected configuration decides whether Bluetooth, external or integrated potentiometers, fan, enclosure, cable or power supply are present. Do not infer that a nominal 2.0 board supplies an independent subwoofer power channel.
  • Desktop amplifiers: AIYIMA A07 PRO, A07 MAX, A20, A70, A80 and A3001; Fosi V3 and BT20A Pro; and Douk/Nobsound A5 or T6PRO are sold in differing adapter, regional-plug and amplifier-only options. Select the desired unit and bundle explicitly. Where a variant says “Only A20,” “No power supply,” “Without Power Supply” or “Only Orange Knob,” do not assume a PSU or even the main amplifier is in that particular option.
  • Power-supply accessory: the AB25-Hifi listing is described as an isolated supply for a TPA3255 amplifier. It is not itself a TPA3255 audio power stage.

Understand the channel and output topology

2.0 stereo means two independent amplifier channels intended for left and right speakers. Mono/PBTL combines or configures outputs for a single higher-current speaker channel when the specific board supports that mode. 2.1 adds a separate bass/subwoofer output, sometimes using two TPA3255 chips. BTL and PBTL wiring and output-terminal polarity vary by board. A speaker negative terminal on a bridged Class-D board must not be presumed to be chassis ground or safely tied to the other channel's negative terminal. Follow the selected board's terminal labeling and manufacturer instructions; do not bridge a unit merely because another listing says “bridgeable.”

Many seller headlines quote “300 W × 2,” “600 W mono,” “600 W + 600 W,” or “300 W × 2 + 600 W.” These figures are not comparable continuous-output guarantees across the collection. Actual delivered power depends on DC supply voltage and current, speaker impedance, acceptable distortion, thermal headroom, output-filter implementation and measurement conditions. A 32 V/5 A adapter has a finite total input-power budget; it cannot continuously deliver two 300 W speaker channels irrespective of an amplifier's advertised peak rating. A PCB advertised for an 18–50 V, 19–51 V, 24–48 V or other range must be checked against its own fitted components. Do not apply the broadest voltage found in one listing to every TPA3255 module or desktop amplifier. Some seller descriptions conflict even within a listing; use the board's specified operating limits and power-supply labeling, and resolve conflicts before energizing it.

How to select a board or complete amplifier

  1. Identify the speaker load: check the selected board's supported nominal speaker impedance and output mode. A board described with a 2 Ω subwoofer rating is not thereby approved for 2 Ω on every output. Use passive speakers on power-amplifier speaker terminals unless that product specifically provides a line-level output for an active subwoofer.
  2. Match the supply: verify DC input voltage, connector polarity, current capacity and whether a power adapter is bundled. Larger power ratings require a capable supply and cooling. A finished AC-input unit and a bare DC-input board have different installation requirements; do not treat their input terminals as interchangeable.
  3. Choose the needed source interfaces: check whether the option includes RCA or 3.5 mm analog input, balanced XLR/TRS, Bluetooth, USB playback, optical or coaxial digital input, and whether a DAC is integrated. The A80 listings discuss DAC and digital inputs; simpler pure power boards do not inherit those features. A mention of PCM5102 in one system describes an onboard DAC, not a loose DAC chip included with every item.
  4. Check audio processing and controls: tone controls, adjustable high-pass filter, subwoofer crossover, post-filter feedback (PFFB), trigger input, app control and swappable op-amps appear on selected products only. PFFB on an A20/A70/A80 or D1-series listing is not a property of every TPA3255 circuit. Determine whether crossover claims describe powered bass output, pre-out or only frequency filtering.
  5. Match wireless features to the actual Bluetooth board: listings name QCC3034, QCC3084 and other Bluetooth versions or codecs. One seller's D3S title and option list combine differing chip/revision claims, and another product distinguishes QCC3034 BT5.1 from QCC3084 BT5.4. Select the explicit revision and check supported codecs and input resolution on the product page. Bluetooth version, aptX, LDAC and 24-bit/96 kHz claims must not be generalized to an unconnected TPA3255 IC or all amplifiers.
  6. Check mechanical and bundle details: choose enclosed versus exposed PCB, integrated versus lead-wire potentiometers, cooling-fan requirement, color, AC region/plug and bundled 24 V, 32 V, 36 V or 48 V supply. Some regional labels describe shipment origin rather than mains compatibility; distinguish the plug and adapter rating from a shipping-location field.

Design considerations for the loose TPA3255

The amplifier IC alone needs an engineered board: correctly rated power rails and bypassing, input conditioning, output filtering, heatsinking and appropriate shutdown/fault handling. Verify the complete IC variant's official data sheet for pin functions, operating range, thermal pad, output configuration, switching behavior and fault limits. A listing calling a bare TPA3255DDVR “original” or “100% new” is a seller assertion, not independent evidence of manufacturer-authorized sourcing, authentication or tested audio performance. Do not assume a loose chip can be substituted into a board populated with TPA3245, TPA3221 or TPA3223 without checking schematic, firmware/control, passive ratings, pin compatibility and thermal design.

Power, thermal and listening expectations

Class-D describes switching power conversion, not immunity to distortion, EMI or overheating. Real results depend on PCB layout, output inductor and filter, ground and shielding strategy, speaker cable and load, PSU ripple, heat flow and gain staging. Terms such as “HiFi,” “fever,” “low noise,” “pure sound” and “audiophile” in source listings do not replace measured THD+N, signal-to-noise ratio, power versus impedance or thermal-derating curves. If you need a specified acoustic or electrical result, look for test conditions tied to the exact assembled product. Allow ventilation and confirm whether cooling is passive or fan-assisted for the selected board. Do not short bridged outputs, reverse DC polarity, connect incompatible active-speaker inputs to a power output or exceed the assembled unit's marked input rating.

Frequently asked questions

Does every listing contain a TPA3255? No. Some multi-choice semiconductor listings offer other TPA-series ICs, and a few accessories contain no amplifier IC. Select the TPA3255 variant where required.

Is a 2.1 amplifier the same as a bridgeable stereo amplifier? No. A 2.1 unit has a dedicated bass signal path/output as described by its own design; a bridgeable stereo unit changes output topology for mono operation. Neither automatically supplies the other's channel arrangement.

Is the quoted wattage available with the included adapter? Not necessarily. A headline may be a peak, chip-level or particular high-voltage/low-impedance claim. Check the selected PSU, load, distortion criterion and operating duration before sizing a system.

Can I choose an amplifier-only option and power it later? Only if the selected model permits a separately sourced, correctly rated power supply. Confirm voltage, polarity, connector and current against that exact amplifier. Do not infer the required connector from another brand's unit.

Does a board with Bluetooth support every named codec? No. The Bluetooth receiver revision and firmware determine the feature set; a pure analog board may have no radio at all. Verify the selected revision and supported source devices.

Product-family names are used for identification and comparison. They do not imply manufacturer affiliation, guaranteed provenance, independent certification or uniform power performance across different sellers and assemblies. Check the selected option and the exact device/board documentation for design-critical specifications.
