5V TVS Diodes, ESD Protectors and Other Grades
Compare 5V-designated transient-voltage-suppression (TVS) diodes and compact ESD protectors, while checking the actual part selected in each product. Options include SMAJ5.0A/CA, SMBJ5.0A/CA, SMCJ5.0A/CA and SMF5.0A/CA; axial 5KP5.0CA; and PESD5V0S1UB, PESD5V0L1BA, ESDSLC5V0LB and ESD5V0D3B signal-line parts. The collection also includes many higher-voltage TVS grades and some unrelated electronic parts. Not every item is a 5V suppressor.
Compare the actual component families
- Two-terminal SMD TVS: SMAJ in SMA, SMBJ in SMB, SMCJ in SMC and compact SMF in SOD-123FL have distinct footprints and pulse-performance assumptions. Listings offer 5.0A and 5.0CA choices alongside 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.5 and much higher-numbered grades. A/CA commonly indicates unidirectional/bidirectional variants, subject to the exact manufacturer's part-number convention. Some fixed listings name SMAJ5.0A, SMBJ5.0A, SMBJ5.0CA or SMF5.0A with 10-, 50- or 100-piece quantities.
- Axial surge suppressors: 5KP5.0CA appears in a 5-piece family menu alongside other 5KP grades. P6KE and 1.5KE listings mostly expose other voltages; some P6KE A/CA selections include 6.8 and above, and another 200-piece/20-value P6KE listing is a mixed assortment. Axial outlines and their transient ratings differ from tiny data-line parts.
- Compact ESD and arrays: PESD5V0L1BA is one SOD-323 choice in a five-voltage menu; PESD5V0S1UB offers separate quantity options from 50 to 3,000 pieces in SOD-523. ESDSLC5V0LB, ESD5V0D3B and CPDVR5V0-HF are separately listed compact bidirectional protection parts. SRV05-4 is listed as a multi-line SOT-23-6 device; confirm its channel map and interface limits rather than treating it as a two-terminal 5V TVS.
- Other grades and devices: SMAJ, SMBJ, SMCJ, 5KP and 5.0SMDJ menus here include higher-voltage variants. SS32–SS36 Schottky rectifiers, FV1043 varactor, prewired LED kit and SKA avalanche-diode listings should not be assumed to be 5V TVS protection components. One BC857CW listing gives contradictory TVS wording; confirm its actual device identity from a reliable part-number datasheet before use.
How to choose for a nominal 5V line
- Measure or calculate the line's maximum normal operating voltage, including tolerance and transients that are not faults. Compare the selected device's reverse standoff voltage (VRWM), breakdown range (VBR) and clamping voltage (VC) at the stated test current against the protected circuit's absolute limits. A “5V” title does not mean the device clamps at 5V.
- Determine whether unidirectional or bidirectional protection is appropriate and verify the exact part's marking, polarity and pinout. Multi-line arrays need a separate line-count and ground/reference connection check.
- Check peak pulse current and power at the specified waveform and temperature derating. Seller labels such as 200 W, 600 W or 5,000 W are not continuous dissipation ratings and cannot be compared without identical test conditions.
- For high-speed signal lines, evaluate junction capacitance and leakage at operating bias as well as ESD test data; for a supply rail, check surge energy and normal voltage excursions. Match package drawings and board pads: SMA, SMB, SMC, SOD-323, SOD-523 and axial outlines are not interchangeable.
- Read the selected variant for exact model and total pack size. A menu with numerous model names usually supplies the one chosen grade, not every grade; only explicitly sold assorted kits include multiple values. Imported seller claims of originality, certification or generic voltage fields are not independently verified specifications.
Frequently asked questions
Does SMBJ5.0A clamp exactly at 5V?
No. Its working standoff, breakdown and clamping voltage are different values. Check VC at the relevant pulse current for the selected full part number.
Can I replace an SMBJ5.0CA with a PESD5V0S1UB?
Do not assume so. Their packages, capacitance, pin connections and transient test ratings may differ. Compare the exact datasheets and protection requirements.
Does the multi-voltage PESD listing include 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V and 24V in one pack?
No. Its menu selects one designation and voltage grade; check the selected option and stated quantity.
Are the LED, varactor and Schottky listings TVS devices?
No. They are different component types in this collection and should not be selected as interchangeable ESD or surge suppressors.
