The BME680 is a low-power gas, pressure, temperature, and humidity. It is a digital 4-in-1 sensor based on proven sensing principles to measure gas, humidity, pressure, and temperature. The sensor module is housed in an extremely metal-lid LGA package, occupying a footprint of only 3.0x3.0 mm² and having a maximum height of 1.00 mm (0.3±0.07 mm). Its small size and low power consumption make it suitable for integration into battery-powered or frequency-coupled devices, such as mobile phones or wearable.

Indoor air quality; home automation and control; Internet of Things (IoT); weather forecasting; GPS enhancement (e.g., time-to-first- improvement, dead reckoning, slope detection); indoor navigation (floor change detection, elevator detection); outdoor navigation, leisure and sports applications vertical speed indication (ascent/descent speed).The BME688 environmental sensor is a highly integrated MEMS environmental sensor capable of comprehensively measuring environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and VOC (volatile compound) gases. Its software protocol and hardware dimensions are fully compatible with the BME680, allowing it to directly replace the BME680 in existing systems without adjustments. At the same time, the BME688 improves the accuracy of temperature measurement and features a cutout around the chip on the circuit board to reduce the impact of heat external components on the measurements.


Another major improvement of the BME688 is the introduction of "heating layer" technology at the bottom of the chip. Traditional VOC sensors susceptible to interference from ambient temperature, leading to measurement errors, whereas the heating layer of the BME688 allows users to precisely control the sensor's temperature, thereby reducing the of ambient temperature on VOC measurements. Leveraging this feature, users can also adjust the heating layer temperature to collect response data of specific composite gases at different temperatures, and combine this with the BME AI-Studio software and BSEC2-Arduino library for secondary development and in-depth analysis using AI technology
