BME680
The BME680 is a low-power gas, pressure, temperature and humidity sensor. The BME680 is a digital 4-in-1 sensor that measures gas, humidity, pressure and temperature based on a proven sensing principle. This sensor module is encapsulated in an extremely compact metal LGA package, with a floor area of only 3.0x3.0 square millimeters and a maximum height of 1.00 millimeters (0.93±0.07 millimeters). Its small size and low power consumption enable it to be integrated into battery-powered or frequency-coupled devices, such as mobile phones or wearable devices.

BME688
The BME688 environmental sensor is a highly integrated MEMS environmental sensor capable of comprehensively measuring environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, air pressure, and VOC gases (volatile organic compounds). Its software protocol and hardware size are fully compatible with the BME680, so no adjustments are needed to directly replace the BME680 in the existing system. Meanwhile, BME688 has enhanced the accuracy of temperature measurement and hollowed out the area around the chip on the circuit board to reduce the impact of heat generated by external components on the measurement.
Another major improvement of BME688 is the introduction of a "heating layer" technology at the bottom of the chip. Traditional VOC sensors are prone to interference from ambient temperature, leading to measurement errors. However, the heating layer of BME688 enables users to precisely control the temperature of the sensor, thereby reducing the impact of ambient temperature on VOC measurement. By taking advantage of this feature, users can also collect the response data of specific composite gases at different temperatures by adjusting the temperature of the heating layer
