Description:
This split board will solve all your power monitoring problems. Without the need to laboriously use two multimeters, you can simply use the convenient INA219B chip on this split board to measure the high-end voltage and DC current on the I2C with an accuracy of 1%.
Most current measurement devices (such as current panel meters) are only suitable for measuring on the low-voltage side. This means that unless you do not want to involve batteries, you must attach the measurement resistor between the target ground and the actual ground. This may cause circuit problems because when the reference voltage of the ground changes and moves with the current, electronic devices will not like it. This chip is more intelligent - even with 3 or 5V power supply, it can handle high-end current measurements up to + 26VDC. It will also report the high-side voltage, which is very useful for tracking battery life or solar panels.
The precision amplifier measures the voltage across a 0.1-ohm, 1% detection resistor. Due to the maximum input differential of the amplifier being ±320mV, it can measure currents up to ±3.2A. Using the internal 12-bit ADC, the resolution within the ±3.2A range is 0.8mA. When the internal gain is set to the minimum of div8, the maximum current is ±400mA and the resolution is 0.1mA. Advanced hackers can remove the 0.1-ohm current detection resistor and replace it with their own resistor to change the range (for example, using a 0.01-ohm resistor to measure 32 amperes of current with a resolution of 8mA).
We include a 6-pin connector (so you can easily connect this sensor to the breadboard) and a 3.5mm terminal plug, allowing for easy connection and disconnection of the load. The usage is very simple. Power the sensor itself with 3 to 5VDC and connect the two I2C pins to your microcontroller. Then connect the target power supply to VIN + and ground the load to VIN -. Now we have an Arduino library that will handle all the gain, range and mathematical operations for you - plug and play! Soon we will have a more detailed tutorial.
