Description:
Microchip Technology Inc.'s MCP9808 digital temperature sensor converts temperatures between -20°C and +100°C to a precision of ±0.25°C/±0.5°C (typical/maximum).
The MCP9808 is equipped with user-programmable registers to provide flexibility for temperature sensing applications. These registers allow the user to select settings such as shutdown or low power mode, as well as specifications for temperature alarm window limits and critical output limits. The MCP9808 outputs an alarm signal when the temperature changes beyond the specified boundary limit. The user can choose to set the alarm output signal polarity to an active low comparator or active high comparator output for thermostat operation or as a temperature alarm interrupt output for a microprocessor based system. The alarm output can also only be configured as a critical temperature output.
The sensor features an industry-standard 400 kHz, 2-wire, smbus/i2c-compatible serial interface that allows up to 8 or 16 sensors to be controlled using a single serial bus. These features make the MCP9808 ideal for complex multi-zone temperature monitoring applications.
