ADS1015 12-Bit I2C ADC Modules and IC Options

ADS1015 12-bit I2C ADC modules and component choices

Explore ADS1015 analog-to-digital converter boards and bare IC options for sensor acquisition and embedded measurement. An ADS1015 converts analog input signals to digital readings over an I2C interface; it is not a digital-to-analog converter. The product listings in this collection often combine ADS1015 with ADS1115 and other models under one title. The selected variant, rather than the shared listing heading or the collection name, determines what you order. This distinction matters especially where a heading says “16-bit” but the ADS1015 selection is the 12-bit device.

What is offered here?

  • ADS1015 board selections: product options include ADS1015, ADS1015 Blue, ADS1015 Purple, ADS1015 12Bit Blue and ADS1015 12Bit Purple. These indicate assembled module choices where the particular offer describes a board. Blue and purple identify listing versions, not a universal PCB schematic or a promise of identical pinouts, pull-ups or connectors. Check the chosen product's pictures, board layout and option text before using an existing footprint or cable.
  • Bare ADS1015 chip selections: ADS1015IDGSR IC and ADS1015 BRPI options appear in mixed-model IC listings. These refer to loose integrated-circuit choices rather than complete development boards. Confirm the full manufacturer ordering suffix, package, marking and piece count on the exact offer before board design or replacement; a short package marking is not an independent specification of every grade.
  • Quantity selections: certain combined listings specify 1pc, 2pcs, 5pcs or 10pcs per selected model; another lists ADS1015 BRPI as 5PCS or 10PCS. Other pages offer a model selection without an explicit multi-piece count. Do not transfer a quantity shown in a product title, in another variant or in another listing to the variant you actually select.
  • Nearby ADS1115 choices: ADS1115 and ADS1115IDGSR are distinct 16-bit ADC options, not alternative names for the ADS1015. Their conversion resolution, available data rates and device-specific performance must be checked separately.

Where a listing offers blue or purple boards, confirm whether the selected item includes headers fitted or loose, a connector such as STEMMA QT/Qwiic, or only the PCB assembly. A listing that uses the word “compatible” does not establish that every board in this collection has the same connector or the same wiring. Bare ICs do not include a breakout board, regulator, wiring or firmware unless explicitly stated on the selected offer.

Understand resolution, range and effective accuracy

The ADS1015 is a 12-bit ADC with a programmable gain amplifier and a multiplexed set of four analog inputs. Four single-ended channels or supported differential input pairings are possible subject to the device's configuration rules. Four channels do not mean four simultaneous samples: a single converter selects an input configuration and samples it in sequence. If inter-channel phase matters, budget for conversion and switching time or evaluate a simultaneous-sampling ADC instead.

Nominal 12-bit resolution represents 4,096 digital code levels across a configured full-scale span. It does not promise 12 noise-free bits or a fixed voltage-per-code figure for every gain setting. The PGA full-scale setting determines nominal code size, while offset, gain error, noise, input-source impedance, common-mode limits and calibration determine practical accuracy. A narrower programmable full-scale range does not authorize analog pins to exceed their permitted voltage relative to the actual supply. Check absolute maximum ratings and the permitted operating input range in the exact device documentation before attaching a sensor.

The ADS1115 option has 16-bit nominal resolution, but it should not be described as an ADS1015 with four extra guaranteed accurate bits, nor assumed to offer the same maximum data rate. Choose based on both resolution and time-domain requirements: a higher reported bit count cannot by itself rescue a noisy sensor, inadequate settling or an unsuitable reference and supply arrangement. Conversely, faster nominal sample capability does not guarantee that every channel can be read at that speed once communications, channel changes and filtering are included.

Supply, input conditioning and noise planning

Some module offers describe a 2.0 V to 5.5 V supply range. Treat that as a claim for the relevant selected board or chip, not as a universal rating for every alternative device or a guarantee that every sensor input from 0 V to 5.5 V can be measured in all configurations. Verify the actual supply, ground, logic-level arrangement and allowable input differential and common-mode conditions for your exact orderable model. A programmable gain amplifier measures small signals within its specified operating envelope; it is not an isolation amplifier, protection circuit or permission to apply an unconditioned high voltage.

Before choosing a board, map the real sensor output range, source impedance and bandwidth. Multiplexed input changes can require acquisition and settling time; high source impedance, long wiring and filters can interact with sampling behavior. Design appropriate signal conditioning for signals outside the ADC input limits and account for transient behavior during power sequencing and faults. Keep analog return, decoupling and cable pickup in the measurement error budget. Oversampling or averaging may reduce random noise under suitable conditions but does not eliminate systematic offset, gain or nonlinear error. Never infer calibration, protection, isolation, certification or guaranteed instrument accuracy from the words “precision” or “development board” in a listing.

I2C integration and system throughput

For an ADS1015 board, verify supply and I2C logic levels, bus pull-up connections, address selection, bus capacitance and the particular PCB pin labels. The device family uses configurable I2C addressing, but putting multiple boards on a shared bus requires distinct supported addresses and a valid electrical bus design. A connector described as Qwiic or STEMMA QT on one listing is not proof of that connector on every board. Controller examples mentioning Arduino or Raspberry Pi are application cues, not a guarantee of direct 3.3 V/5 V interoperability in every wiring and supply arrangement.

Separate the ADC's configured data rate from the rate at which your application receives validated readings from each sensor. I2C transactions, single-shot versus continuous conversion, gain changes, channel switching, software latency and any filtering all consume time. If you cycle through four channels, the per-channel update rate is lower than the overall conversion rate, and the readings are not simultaneous. For a closed-loop controller or event capture, calculate maximum allowed latency and verify the selected part's timing and interface behavior against the current datasheet.

Mixed-model listings: select by function, not search term

Several products here contain other selectable models. ADS1110, ADS1118, ADS1120, ADS1220, MCP3421 and SGM58031 are separate converter choices with their own resolutions, channels, interfaces, packages and timing. An ADS1118 selection, for example, is not an I2C ADS1015 board; assess its actual interface and product format. PCF8591 is a different mixed ADC/DAC device. MCP4725 is a DAC that creates an analog output from digital data, so it does not replace an ADS1015 analog-input converter. AD5593 options need their own selected configuration and listing check, rather than being treated as ADS1015 modules. PCA9306 or PCA9306DP1.125 selections are I2C level-translation components or boards, not ADCs. IC-only lists also offer ADS1013, ADS1014, ADS1018, ADS1118, ADS8319 and ADS8867; the similar prefixes do not establish pin compatibility or identical converter behavior.

These other items remain available in their existing mixed-model listings. They are described here so you can avoid accidentally buying a DAC, level shifter or different ADC for an ADS1015 requirement. Some descriptions mix claims for several selectable models and even label the entire listing as 16-bit: always anchor performance, package, piece count and interface statements to the selected variant. Product headings such as “5pcs” or “1PCS” can conflict with a model selector; resolve such conflicts using the explicit variant and confirm with the seller if the delivered quantity is still unclear.

Selection checklist for engineering and repair

  1. Choose the function: use ADS1015 when the requirement is a 12-bit I2C analog-input converter; check a different part's own specification if you need 16-bit nominal resolution, a DAC output, another bus interface or a level translator.
  2. Choose the form: distinguish a ready-built breakout from an ADS1015IDGSR or other bare chip. Confirm board dimensions, connectors and pinout for a module, or the full suffix, footprint and assembly method for an IC.
  3. Choose the exact option: read the full variant name for model, color, shipping choice and piece count. Options labeled 1pc, 2pcs, 5pcs and 10pcs describe separate quantities rather than a combined assortment.
  4. Set an error and timing budget: identify sensor span, permissible error, noise, required per-channel sample rate, gain setting, input settling and communications overhead before treating nominal bits or samples per second as a performance promise.
  5. Validate electrical limits: compare controller logic levels, bus pull-ups, supply and input conditions with the exact board schematic where available and the correct component datasheet. For replacements, match the full marked device, package and operating limits rather than the ADS1015 keyword alone.

Yoeruyo presents these as selectable component and module offers, not as a universally interchangeable kit. Actual board implementation, supplied accessories, origin, grading and performance depend on the selected listing; verify its contents and the relevant manufacturer's documentation before committing to a PCB design or critical measurement system.
