TMS320 DSP Chips, Development Boards & Debuggers

TMS320 DSP engineering: choose silicon, board or debugger deliberately

This collection contains selected TMS320-family processor ICs, C2000 control-oriented development boards and XDS-series JTAG debugging tools, alongside other embedded electronics and audio equipment drawn into the series by broad product text. The first decision is whether you need a loose semiconductor for a PCB, a populated evaluation board, or a host-connected emulator/debug probe. Those are separate purchases. A debugger does not contain the target TMS320 processor; a development board cannot stand in for a chip on your production BOM.

Loose TMS320 and C2000-family devices

  • TMS320C6745DPTP3 and TMS320C6745DPTP4: listings offer two selectable LQFP-176 processor codes under one headline. The selected suffix identifies the purchase; do not infer that both devices ship together. Compare manufacturer documentation for speed grade, package pinout, operating temperature, supply, memory and supported peripherals. Several similarly titled listings repeat the same alternatives, but matching headlines do not independently prove identical source, revision or lot condition.
  • TMS320LF2407APGEA: the QFP-144 listing calls this a 16-bit fixed-point DSP with 1-, 2-, 5- and 10-piece options. Those quantities refer to alternative packs, not four chips in one order. Its architecture and electrical requirements differ from C6745 and from modern C2000 parts; do not substitute by family prefix.
  • TMS320F28027PTT: a C2000 32-bit microcontroller listing offers 1 through 5 pieces. The F28027 is a control MCU, not a C6745 floating-point multimedia DSP. Check the precise package, flash/RAM, PWM/ADC capabilities, toolchain and device revision in the official device documents before design-in.

Development boards and embedded targets

F28335 minimum-system/core boards mention a TMS320F28335PGFA, a 5V/750mA supply requirement, JTAG access and 3.3V I/O in supplier text. One listing has No Welding Pin, With Welding Pin and Emulator choices; “Emulator” may select a debug accessory rather than a populated board, so verify the chosen variant's physical contents. A second F28335 board listing offers the two pin-soldering choices only. These variants distinguish assembly or item type, not chip speed grades. Compare board revision, breakout-header population, isolation, power circuit, ADC front-end, clock, memory and actual MCU marking. The supplier's string of peripheral counts is compressed and ambiguous; do not treat “16-channel PWM 26-channel HRPWM” as a verified count without the schematic and manufacturer's F28335 datasheet.

F2802/F2808 minimum-system boards use a model selector to choose 2802 or 2808, distinct MCU targets with different resources. PI035-series listings mix PI035, PI0049, PI0025, PI380 and an operation panel; these are board/control-panel alternatives, not a kit containing every F28035, F280049 and F280025 device. Some listings add a 32mm option, which does not establish identical pinouts across models. A generic “TMS320 DSP Development Board” listing gives little technical evidence beyond its name and even reports an irrelevant rubber material; request its actual device marking, board schematic and supported debugger before assuming a particular TMS320 target.

JTAG emulators and toolchain compatibility

XDS510PP parallel-port, XDS100V2, XDS100V3, T23C, SJ S100V3 and TMS320-XDS100-V3 listings describe host-to-target debugging/programming tools, not processors. Some descriptions cite CCS4/5/6/10/12, Windows 7/8/10, TI ARM9/Cortex-A8 and TMS320 targets. Such compatibility claims are seller-supplied and may depend on probe firmware, driver, Code Composer Studio version, target JTAG/CJTAG wiring, device support and OS architecture. Confirm the selected probe's pinout, header voltage, connector, driver availability and supported exact target. “Separate Isolation,” “No Isolation” and “Isolation built-in” are materially different options under one debugger listing; do not infer isolation on the base version. A probe that connects to a header does not make an arbitrary target board safe or electrically compatible.

Other products that are not a TMS320 chip or matching debugger

  • Audio hardware: ADAU1452/CS42448/AD1938 pages contain choices such as ADAU1452 DSP alone, CODEC alone, combined DSP+CODEC board and USBi-equipped versions. The different labels can mean a component, a board or a board with programming interface; do not assume the selected option includes all pictured ICs and a USBi. ADAU1701 and ADAU1401 boards, an ADAU1701-versus-ADM1069 chip selector, a TAS5805 amplifier board, ShennDare CQ190/CQ260/CQ380 choices and professional audio effects/processors are separate audio platforms, not TMS320 targets. An ADM1069 monitoring-circuit option is not an ADAU audio DSP.
  • Other development and test items: Arduino Uno R3 starter kit, CH32V203 RISC-V board in 1/3/5/10-piece alternatives, an ESP32 HMI display with or without acrylic case, an SSD1963 LCD module, an ADS1299 biosignal acquisition kit and FG-100/FG-200 signal-generator options serve different projects. These do not inherit TMS320 software, JTAG or pin compatibility from their collection placement.
  • Flying, automotive and CNC products: H743 flight-controller selections include an FC-only choice, an ESC-only choice and FC+ESC stack choices; MATEK H743 WING/SLIM variants are STM32-based flight boards. VCDS/VAGCOM diagnostic-interface language choices concern an automotive tool, not TI DSP support. A DMA100T security-research board and an OB2530PAP DIP-8 listing are also not evidence of a TMS320 core. HYCNC DSP 0501 variants select a single handle, wiring board, 50-pin data cable or suit, with shipping-origin alternatives; its use of “DSP” as a CNC-controller label does not make it a TI TMS320 development kit.
  • Car and PA audio: PUZU PZ-C7 vehicle-harness choices, microphone reverb devices, speaker-management processors and crossover units are finished audio equipment. PZ-C7's Toyota non-JBL listing warns about JBL systems and discusses different year harnesses; this is unrelated to selecting a C2000 processor.

Selection checklist for a TMS320 project

  1. Start with the full target code: compare C6745DPTP3 versus DPTP4, LF2407APGEA, F28027PTT, F28335PGFA or the installed F280x device. Validate core architecture, instruction set, flash/external memory, clock, temperature, package and errata; “TMS320” alone is not a cross-compatible platform.
  2. Match the intended unit: a loose LQFP-176 or QFP-144 IC requires PCB assembly and application circuitry; a core board includes additional components but may lack soldered headers; a USB/parallel emulator needs a compatible target board and host computer. Read the chosen variant, not just the product headline or photo.
  3. Review analog and control integration: verify logic I/O voltage, ADC reference and input limits, PWM and capture routing, power sequencing, oscillator and JTAG voltage against the device and board schematics. Never transfer peripheral availability from the silicon datasheet to an unverified breakout header.
  4. Verify software chain: check exact target support in Code Composer Studio, drivers, compiler, bootloader and emulator firmware. Imported claims about broad CCS and Windows versions are not guaranteed by the collection.
  5. Qualify sourcing: “new,” “100% original,” stated warranty or “in stock” in upstream text does not independently establish provenance, marking, regulatory status, inventory or test history. Confirm the exact manufacturer orderable part and documentation for production or safety-sensitive use.

Frequently asked questions

Is an XDS100 emulator a TMS320 DSP? No. It is a debugging interface used with a compatible target board and software. Select a loose IC or development board separately.

Does the F28335 “Emulator” variant include the F28335 board? That is not established by the selector. The choice may represent an accessory; verify package contents before purchase.

Are C6745DPTP3 and C6745DPTP4 shipped together? No combined pack is established. They are separate model choices; check the selected option and full orderable code.

Can I substitute an F28027 for a C6745? No drop-in compatibility is established. They differ in core/application focus, package, pins and software requirements.

Are PI035, PI0049 and the operation panel the same board? No. The selector names distinct board/control-panel options. Select the exact target and check the chosen listing's contents.

Does an ADAU1452 board use TI TMS320 tools? No such compatibility is established. ADAU audio boards use their own processor/control workflow; USBi-equipped and codec-only selections must be distinguished.

Does a flight-controller stack option include both FC and ESC? Only a specific stack variant indicates both; FC-only and ESC-only choices are separate. None of them is a TMS320 development board by virtue of this collection.

This collection guide helps separate TMS320 engineering components from similarly labeled tools and audio equipment. It does not certify interchangeability, tool support, authenticity or included accessories. For design-in, follow the exact manufacturer's ordering guide, schematics and current software support matrix.
