Single-turn and Multi-turn Absolute Rotary Encoder
Clarifying a common misconception: A single-turn encoder does not mechanically limit to one turn, and a multi-turn encoder does not mechanically limit to multiple turns. The key difference lies in their power-off memory range.
Single-turn encoders can mechanically rotate endlessly but retain position data only within one turn. Multi-turn encoders, while also mechanically unlimited, retain position data across multiple turns. This makes multi-turn encoders ideal for applications needing accurate position recovery over multiple turns.
