After the electrolytic capacitor is left for a long for time (2 to 3 months), if it is immediately to the rated operating leakage and heating will be significantly increased. Therefore, electrolytic capacitor that has been left on hold for a long for time needs aging (activation) process before it can be used normally.The specific method is to increase the working at both ends of the electrolytic capacitor step by step until the rated voltage.If the working of the electrolytic capacitor is 450V, then the following steps can be performed:
First the capacitor is subjected to of 50V for 10 to 15 minutes
Then, after every 4 to 5 minutes, the is increased by 20V, and the working is gradually increased. To the rated For safety reasons, it is generally required to 100K5W current limiting resistor in series to prevent the electrolytic short circuit from damaging the power supply. The across the 100K resistor can also be used to detect the electrolytic leakage current. If conditions permit, it is also possible to use adjustable power supply with 10mA constant current source for aging.
Normally, the intact electrolytic capacitor has leakage current of 0.025~0.05mA/microfarad under rated and normal temperature.
