1、Overview

The AS3935 is a programmable, fully integrated lightning sensor integrated circuit capable of detecting the presence and approach of potentially hazardous lightning activity in the vicinity, whilst providing an estimated storm front distance. An internal lightning algorithm analyses input signal patterns to exclude potential human interference.

The sensor also incorporates noise level monitoring, employing a noise floor generator and evaluation module to alert external devices (such as microcontrollers) when excessive noise is detected.

The AS3935 can be programmed via a standard 4-wire SPI interface or an I²C interface. When selecting the I²C interface, four distinct addresses are available. Internally, the chip generates two clock signals using separate RC oscillators (TRCO and SRCO), with precision enhanced through an automatic calibration process. The sensor may be powered either by its internal regulator or directly from VDD.
