GPIO Pinout Overview:
Setting Up the Arduino Development Environment
The ESP8266 supports development tools such as Eclipse and Arduino IDE. Using Arduino is relatively straightforward. The following outlines the method for setting up the Arduino development environment:
1. Install Arduino IDE version 1.8.9 or the latest release;
2. Open Arduino IDE, navigate to File > Preferences in the menu bar. Within Preferences, click Add URL under ‘Additional Board Manager URLs’:
http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json,
3. Navigate to Tools > Board > Board Manager in the menu bar. Search for ‘ESP8266’ and install the Arduino support package 2.5.2 or the latest version for the ESP8266.
Note: As the download source is overseas, access speeds may be slow and download errors may occur. Simply try again when network conditions improve.
Programme Download:
1. Connect IO0 and GND pins using jumper caps/DuPont wires. Prepare a TTL serial module (e.g., FT232) and plug it into your computer's USB port. Connect the serial module to the development board as follows:
2. Click Tools → Board in the menu bar, then select ESPINO (ESP-12 MODULE) as the development board.
3. Open the program to be downloaded. Click Tools → Port in the menu bar and select the correct port number.
4. Click ‘Upload’. The program will automatically compile and download to the development board, as shown below:
5. Finally, disconnect the IO0 and GND connection. Power the development board again or press the reset button to run the program.
