Description:

The MCP9808 digital temperature sensor from Microchip Technology Inc. converts temperatures between -20°C and + 100°C into digital words with an accuracy of ±0.25°C / ±0.5°C (typical/maximum).The MCP9808 is equipped with user-programmable registers that provide flexibility for temperature sensing applications. These registers allow the user to select settings such as shutdown or low-power modes, as well as the specification of temperature alarm window limits and critical output limits. The MCP9808 outputs an alarm signal when the temperature changes above the specified boundary limits. The user has the option of setting the alarm output signal polarity to a low-level active comparator or low-level active comparator output for thermostat operation, or to a temperature alarm interrupt output for microprocessor-based systems. The alarm output can also only be configured as a critical temperature output. The sensor has an industry-standard 400 kHz, 2-wire, smbus / i2c-compatible serial interface that allows up to 8 or 16 sensors to be controlled using a single serial bus (see Table 3-2 for available address codes). These features make the MCP9808 ideally suited for complex multi-zone temperature monitoring applications.
