ST Microelectronics' VL53L0X is a time-of-flight ranging system integrated into a compact module. This board is the carrier of VL53L0X, so we recommend that you carefully read the VL53L0X data sheet (1MB pdf) before using this product.
The VL53L0 uses ST's FlightSense technology to accurately measure the time required for the emitted infrared laser pulses to reach the nearest object and reflect back to the detector, making it a small, self-sufficient LiDAR system. This time-of-flight (TOF) measurement enables it to accurately determine the absolute distance to the target, while the reflectivity of the object does not greatly affect the measurement. Sensors can report distances of up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) with a resolution of 1 mm, but their effective range and accuracy (noise) heavily depend on environmental conditions and target characteristics (such as reflectivity and size) as well as sensor configuration. The accuracy of the sensor is specified as ranging from ± 3% at best to over ± 10% under worst conditions.
The measurement range is provided through the I ² C (TWI) interface of the sensor, which is also used to configure sensor settings. The sensor also provides two additional pins: turn off input and interrupt output.
VL53L0X is a great IC, but its small, leadless, LGA packaging makes it difficult for typical students or enthusiasts to use. It still operates at the recommended voltage of 2.8 V, which may make it difficult for microcontrollers operating at 3.3 V or 5 V to interface. Our distribution board solves these problems, making it easier to start using sensors while keeping the overall size as small as possible.
PIN Description
VDD stabilizes at 2.8V output. Almost 150 mA can be used to power external components. If you want to bypass the internal voltage regulator, you can use this pin as a 2.8V input and disconnect VIN.
VIN, this is the main 2.6 V to 5.5 V power connection. SCL and SDA level shifters pull the I ² C line high to this level.
Ground (0 V) connection of GND power supply. Your I ² C control source must also share a common ground with the board.
SDA level conversion I ² C data line: HIGH is VIN, LOW is 0V
SCL level shift I ² C clock line: HIGH is VIN, LOW is 0 V
XSHUT pin is a low-level effective turn off input; By default, the board pulls it up to VDD to enable the sensor. Drive the pin to a low level to put the sensor into hardware standby mode. This input does not undergo level conversion.
